Resinator...... another question.

As I get closer to purchase my stretch body, I have begun planning out the interior. This question is about the steering column in this pic. Can you provide the length and what brand is the steering wheel? Thanks in advance!

Do you have a part # and price?

Also...... the steering wheel. What diameter is it? Do you have a part# and price?

Thanks, man! Can the bracket that supports the column at the firewall be purchased separately? Is the column available WITHOUT the wiring?

Sorry.... more than one question.;)

Thanks again!

I had a Limeworks wheel in my '27 and loved it. Unfortunately it was like the one in the pics but with holes in the spokes and locally wrapped. After 8 years, it cracked at one of the spokes this summer. I have replaced it with a cheap but similar Grant one for now, but it just isn't the same.

The Grant 3 spoke was my first choice, but I've always loved the Limeworks 4 spoke wheel. It just seems elegant. It's 4 times as much a the Grant, but there's no denying the better look. I'm really gonna bite the bullet on this choice. I'm grateful for the interior pics because I was worried a 15" diameter steering wheel would be too big. But it looks nice in that interior.

Man, the steering wheels are expensive in comparison to other parts. I'm not referring the sponsors prices, but steering wheels in general. I have always liked the look of the old grants, but their horn kits are not very good, imho. The fiber disc that the horn button snaps onto warps and allows the button to be propelled off via the spring, then the horn stays on....ask me how I know, lol. The three bolt design is nice and simple. It's crazy how many different bolt patterns there are for such a basic, seemingly universal part. FYI, beware of knock off wheels on fleabay. Be very skeptical and look very close.

I just wasted time adding some detailed info based on my experience to aid anyone else, but the 10 minute edit limit erased it. I'm not redoing it. What an aggravation! Sorry, I should have replied instead of edit. It apparently counts from the beginning of the initial post, not the edit start time. That's something that should be changed to improve the site, imho. Not complaining, just an observation.

I'm not worried about the horn because Speedway has a metal retainer ring for steering wheels not using a horn switch/button in that location. It's metal and the horn cover snaps to it. Then, you mount your horn button or switch where you please. I'll mount my button between or at the forward base of the seats. Check it out:

Yea, the price of the Limeworks wheel is high. And originally my choice was a Grant 3 spoke with the holes. It would have gone with the "holes" theme I kinda have going on. Plus, it's only about $40, but I've always eyeballed that 4 spoke steering wheel, ever since I first saw one many years ago. It'll go great with the seats I want. In truth, I thought the wheel in CCR's pics was maybe a 13" wheel. I was almost hoping a 15" wheel would be too big and give me an excuse to not go for it. But when Resinator confirmed the size, I knew I'd hate myself for not trying to get it. Plus, my column will have a removable hub, so I'll be able to take the wheel off, if it's an issue getting in and out of the car.

It'll be one of those things I really ponder, when I make the call to Diane and tell her to ship it. Hey.... a little splurge never hurt anyone. Depending on when the body arrives, it'll be a Christmas gift to myself. At least that's what I'll say over a steaming bowl of Raman Noodles.:D

Build it the way that will make you happy. Don't settle for a that's good enough. May take longer waiting for the money tree to grow but, when it's done you be glad you spent the extra $$$.

Trust me, I am. As I think I've stated before, this will most likely be my last rodeo, so I'm talking my time to get it just like I want. It'll get modified as time goes on, but this is really it. Logically, I never should have started another one, but having owned one for 10 years, having a Hot Rod kinda became a part of who I am. One day, when I'm really bored, I'll pull out my sketch pad and do a concept.

Just for extra info, the other real nice wheel that's a bit smaller diameter is the Nostalgia Full Leather Wrap 14" 4-Spoke wheel (around $220). It is polished billet, so a little harder to maintain than chrome, but is great quality. They (Pete&Jakes) keep black in stock but other colors are available and can be covered in your leather if need be.
