Questions reguarding steering brackets and shocks

Getting my axles setup and wanted to get the front one finish before i go back to the rear.
Im questions how im suppose to put steering brackets on my spindles as they look like there wont be enough room between the spindle and axle. Ill attach pictures.

2nd question is about front shocks. I had the lower shock mount that bolts on the bottom of the batwing but it wont worl due to my dront axle not setting under the frame. So i purchased some shackle shock moun
 
First try mounting the caliper brackets on the top bolts. Be sure bleeder is still up. The lower shock goes on the bolt holding the radius rods to the axle with bolt going to front. The shackle brackets are not needed. You will need a top shock mount.

The caliper brackets only fit on the bottom of the spindle. They wont fit on the top. The top is to big and the bracket wont seat around it.

Yeah I know where the shackle shock mount goes, Im just worried cause I dont think there is going to be enough room/clearence for it. I have the upper shock mounts already. Its the shock mount and headlight bracket.
But I have to use the shackle shock mount. The one in the picture that is on the right hand side, will not work. If I install a shock on those, it will hit the batwing.
 
I dont think I bought the right front brake kit for my car -_-.
I think the caliper brackets that were in my kit are for a stock ford spindle. Speedway says that it should work on my spindle I have (all purchased from them on the same order) But I dont think thats accurate after looking at the kit online again.

This is what i purchased.
Brake Kit 1969-77 GM Caliper to Early Ford Spindle, Ford B-P
Speedway 1928-1948 Ford Forged Spindles Only

This is the kit I think I should of bought with those spindles.
1937-48 Ford Spindle Disc Brake Kit, 5 on 4-3/4, Big GM Caliper
 
Did you try bolting the bracket to the top 2 bolts with the caliper to the rear of the axle? That is how they should mount. I believe you have the late spindles. I have the 37/48 kit with the large calipers.
Okay I just re-read your post about already trying them on top.

Yeah I put the links of the 2 kits I got. I think I got the wrong kit....
Im now wondering if I can modify the caliper brackets to work
 
G'Day Irish, you should be able bevel the front and back top corners of the spindle and ease the same area on the brackets to get a bit of clearance for a nice fit.

Can you take the caliper bracket off and flip it to how its suppose to go and take a pic of the interference location(s). Looking at the instructions, the bracket is suppose to mount to the top 2 bolts and the rear bottom bolt locations. Before you do anything, you can always call Speedway and tell them of your problem, your probably not the first one to run into this. I think the difference between the two kits is more the matter of bolt circle (Chevy vs Ford)

The kit you got says it's for the spindles with an integral cast steering arm, . . . From the description:

  • Designed to work on 1937-48 Ford spindles that have the cast on steering arms. It will not function correctly when used on a spindle that uses bolt on steering arms and would require alteration

The one you think you should have gotten, is the one you should have gotten . . . Will Speedway exchange it?

I think this is exactly what im gona have to do.
My spindles use bolt on steering arms. The kit i got i think is for cast steering arms
 
Ill get some pics of it trying to bolt to top to show the clearance issue for you all.

Im still stuck on the issue that i have no way of attaching shocks to this axle. In the last pic of the original post it shows the 2 different shock mounts i have. Neither one of them will work with my setup.

Any thoughts on how to attach some shocks?
 
Ive attached some images of the clearance issue with the caliper bracket.
Also I have attached 2 images that shows that the shackle shock mounts wont work on my front end either.
Thoughts?

What if you used this type of shackle bracket?

Mm going in the right direction in figuring something out there but that still wouldn't work. It wouldnt clear the batwing and Id still need it to stick out about an inch or so to keep the shock bushings from not being crooked.
That bracket almost looks like its about 45*. If there was one that was at a 90* angle, that might possibly work.
