Starting a new thread hoping to show some pictures very soon. I've taken pictures from the start. See guys, I did learn something from you all. The importance of having pictures for the reader.

Nope, still no upload button yet.... I feel like Yosemite Sam when bugs bunny says draw and and he keeps erasing because he goofing up.
Remember, go easy on me...this is my first one.

Welcome, CheapT. Please send $1000 in small unmarked bills for your initiation fee. Or you can crawl naked thru burning gasoline and broken glass. Your choice and enjoy!

Put them in a Mason jar and bury it in the Tbucketeer cemetery by the tombstone inscribed "Oklahoma was marginally better."
Just saw the John Morehead article and video of your car. Very Nice! I have to ask, did you design it around the potvin supercharger?

Since I can't post pictures yet I decided to cheat. Here you go. That's it so far....

Yes, that and the Halibrand QC IRS. Built the frame from scratch to fit those pieces plus the stretch CCR body, and the rest was just kinda thrown together...

Welcome CheapT to our wonderful forum. I'm looking forward to some photos.
Thank you DonnyRay. I think I have the picture thing figured out. I've been looking through you project. Only about 1/4 way through it. looking nice.

Here goes! I think I have the file size figure out now. (can resize in windows photo)
My goal is to see how "inexpensively" I can built my car. I bought the Chester plans - under 3K in 1985, more like 8K in 2022.
I built the frame 8" longer since I'm tall.

I had a model A. I sold it and used the front axle for my car. The rear end is bone yard from 99 explorer. 3:73 posi w/disc brakes.

The body is Cromwell / Hot Rod Fiberglass. Seems like it's well constructed. If it was to begin with i might have changed that. I cut it in half and streched it 5". And to all the guys who want to build the frame first....I widened the body 3" because..... IT DIDN'T FIT! LOL

Okay, here's my attempt at mounting a steering rack. Best I can tell it's circa 1974 pinto rack . It's to be connected to my unidentifiable front axle and mounted to the frame with 3/16" brackets. I'm thinking a u joint at the rack and one near the column with a double D shaft for interconnecting. The column and steering wheel I have are from a 65 galaxy. I'm guessing I'll have to modify the column but not certain yet. I can use or modify the hula-hoop steering wheel from the 65 or I have a 12" 70's style 3 spoke chrome spoke wheel. The little wheel probably won't be the greatest with a manual rack though.

I'm using a 13" wheel on mine, and since these little cars are so light steering is very easy. In parking lots, I just let it roll slightly before making sharp turns. Works for me! :geek:

You got it right, Spanky. That’s the way everyone should drive and steer. Let the car help you do the work. Just watch people drive in parking lots. They’ve always fighting with the wheel pulling in and out of parking spaces.

CheapT, I have R&P on my bucket. U-joint at R&P, then shaft support, then long shaft to another shaft support and double U to steering column. Lemme know if I can help with your setup. I have lots of pics.

Thanks! At least I'm going down the right track. What size tires would you recommend? Originally I wanted skinny with spokes like ET gasser type. Then I read about potential handling issues while turning. Maybe something wider than a 4 1/2" wide rim...

Thanks! I could use the help! My plan is to do as your setup is. U joint at the rack, supports on the D shaft and 1 more u joint at the column. I'm at a point where I'm starting to "shoot at the shadows" and guess as I go. I haven't found very many articles on the amount of forces that are exerted on the rack while steering and driving. I currently have it mocked up with some 3/16" stock. I'm not certain if that would be sufficient.
