Been driving to car shows lately, been averageing 16 mpg . I don't think that is to bad . For my set up...

You had me going until I realized you said you were "averaging" 16 mph. What are the engine specs again ? Also the rear end ratio.

John

305 chevvy , bored 30 over, rv cam, 4bbl. carb , headers ,turbo 350 auto, 3:73 possie rear end , weight 1840# with out driver. Fill up with gas ,drive to show fill again when i get home check mileage. Not hot rodding it. Well a little bit.

My gas mileage in my bucket???

How much I got invested???

If I kept track it would take all the fun out of it. Might as well drive a Prius.

You could stick an over drive trans in it for 1500.00, but the extra 4 or 5 mpg would only be for bragging rights. But you would have an off the line advantage from the lower gears with the o.d. trans. Something to think about with that "tiny, little engine ya'll have in there".
Add an extra 100 inches, keep everything else the same and enjoy the ride.

John

I haven't ran an actual test in mine yet but with a 290 hp 350 and 700r4 and 320 rear end it just don't use very much. Will have to go for a long drive and check it

Ron I traded the Dana for a 9 inch ford with 320 gears and put 9.25 wide tires on the rear and am going to build tread plate tool boxes to take up the room between the tank and the tires. I am working on finishing the interior with door panels and have carpet on the floor.

I checked my mpg going to car shows once I got 16.3, next time 15.8, last time 16.1 So I called it average 16 M.P.G. Depends on the wind & up & down hills.

Gas mileage? For a Hot Rod? I'm confused.o_O

I think about mileage now and then. I know on a 90 mile run, at 80mph I get 15+mpg. Running 55/65 20mpg. Then I get to thinking....I spent X amount of dollars on something that is a toy, and I worry about gas mileage? So, bottom line is I know I can go 150 miles without refueling. That is all that really matters.

I have a sign I put in my car at car shows says this is a ''Hybrid car burns gas and rubber '' [some don't understand it.] also I have a sign says'' Built Ford tough with chevvy stuff'' . Ford people don't like that . Oh well can't make everybody happy. I also have one that says '' This car gets 31 smiles per gallon''. Some think it says 31 miles per gallon. Oh well.

My t-bucket has a 427 ford fe engine ,two four barrel carbs, 9" ford rear end with 2.70 gears ,Mickey Thompson 33x22x15 " radials. My tach reads about 1900 rpms at 60 mph, never checked gas mileage ,it's enjoyment that counts.

People ask me all the time..."what kind of gas mileage do you get?" I reply with the same aforementioned bumper sticker comments..."it's smiles per gallon", "I burn gas and rubber", "in a hotrod?...why check?"
But, in reality i get around 12...only because I can't keep my foot out of it. :)

I don't think many of us care about gas mileage. If you were driving your dual quad 409 Chevy or your Hemi Mopar, would you really give a darn? You're not driving cross country in your bucket. As Kurt64 said "It's smiles per gallon"!
