Birth of Long John

I have been using a mig for 10 years or so.
A friend of mine is a pro welder across the street that has a tig and the odd time i need to weld some aluminum and him being the way he is makes me do it myself using his tig with his guidance then still charges me a case of beer.
But hey its his electricity, time, filler wire, and so on, so I don't mind it gives me some seat time.
So experience is basically nil but I plan on doing allot of practice after this black Friday sale.

I used to be able to weld beutifully, torch, braze, mig, arc... never tried to tig. I lost my left eye in an accident years back and it really inhibits my welds. I can still weld proficiently, not so pretty. Depth perception is an issue. I recently procured a tig... not good so far. I watched a friend build headers, looks easy, lol... it takes time and practice to get it right.
 
I look a Jody at least once a day! I know WHAT to do but HOW to do is a little ways off! Seat time is something you can’t rush!

Fletch I think you’ll be fine with TIG. Gas welding you watch the puddle just like TIG. Instead of moving torch away when you need less heat you lift your foot.

ITS ME!! Weather and back are within human limits so I got out. Indy cars came by Tuesday and helped put the finishing touches on the 700r4 in the Riviera then we built a carriage to hold the rear end at ride height and on rollers so we can roll it around. I’ll post pictures when I get the rear mounted. I found a great degreaser! Hunk spray tell! I sprayed on the rear at the auto part store and drove to the car wash. Waited about 15 minutes and rinced it and WOW! Pix to follow. A big thanks to Indy for being there for me!
 
I will vouch for that too.. Used it on my 283 in my 64 Chev short box truck,, worked like a charm.
Must have been 3" of gunk build up on that engine and bay sitting for over 20 years ,, took two coats and it was like working on a new car.
 
It does wonders on the house. I do the houses my barn, shop, tractor, mowers, everything... I hate working on filthy stuff. Running a repair shop doing old work stained me, lol. I do love junk, I just like it clean. I do keep a gallon of degreaser on hand in the shop.
 
With a little cooler weather I got out in the shop to play a bit. I mocked up the front end. I had to cut 7 3/4” out of the front axle to fit like I wanted it. I’m really pleased with the look. 47F2F1A2-7B21-4A10-8A9F-D653D09FE59C.jpeg
 
You definitely have my attention . . . I'll be following closely.

How are you planning to implement front suspension?
