New Suspension parts from California Custom Roadsters!

Just a question, is the front spring bracket on the right way round? Most of the ones I've seen are on top of the spring. This one has the whole front of the car hanging on two U bolts.

The leaf is on top if the perch with a plate on top of the leaf. I just put the bolts on upside down lol its like this one

G'Day IL, reason I commented is because you have the whole front of the car hanging off the leaf spring rather than sitting on it like most others. I suspect you would need a different shape bracket if what you have now is the height you want the chassis. It just surprised me to see it that way round that's all. Don't mind me, keep on building. ;-))
 
The amount of threads showing on the top bar would be ideal on all the ends (around 3/8" of thread showing) and there should be at least 2 times the diameter of the thread going into the bar. You will probably need to trim off the top bar to match all those and locate that frame bracket correctly (unless you want a 6"+ bracket hanging beneath the frame). I agree that all the set-up should be done with healthy tack welds until all is correct and done. The top perch plate needs rotated one hole to have the bolts line up correct when you put it back together.
CCR has been doing our T-Bucket front ends with the spring on top of the perch for 45+ years so don't worry about the set-up.
A true suicide front end would have the axle ahead of the perch and would not have an axle to land on in the event of some failure. The shocks also serve as a secondary safety stop in that same event. I would worry more about some of the 1/2" shackle hanger pivot bolts, (cast who knows where?), that are sold by others.
If you set-up the front-end using only the main leaf and having the stands under the axle, you will have a better ride height simulation.

(I guess irishluck is the strong silent type . . . :laugh:) I believe CCR has always mounted their perches that way. And there's a lot of their chassis' runnin' around!

But yes, I will agree that I should have tack welded instead of fully welding the bracket on.
Figured I had that top plate on wrong because I noticed the bolts not straight up and down as well. Just wanted to get it on and see what everything looked like.
Eager to get the car done. But Thats how I wanted the perch too. After talking to everyone in my other post and using the CCR plans, I liked the leaf on top of the perch look better and Im sure there wont be any issues with that.

Im going to measure for the radius arm brackets today and get those on so I can get that all bolted up and see how this looks.
