Anyone here??? Split bones or Hairpins??

Hey all!! I'm getting to the point in the planning phase where I need to decide on Hairpins or Split wishbones. Looks wise, I love the old Ford stuff so I'd prefer to use those as I'm trying to keep it a "traditional" style build. The rear end specifically I'm concerned with as I'll be running a Caddy 472 with a ton of torque. Not sure if they'll twist, break, etc. Any thoughts?? I appreciate it.

Not knowing any better I'll add my question to this since I need to pick tube axle or traditional. On the tube axle hairpins always have clevis links on the front. Even with the hairpin parallel to the frame I see it binding at the mount points at the axle Yes a panhard bar will stop/lessen the side to side shake but why skip using spherical joints there too? I've seen pictures online where the spring shackles are twisted to connect the spring to the bat wings? Or is it negligible?

I think your 472 would destroy a setup like that.

It looks too light duty to me. And the upper arms don't look like they'd articulate very well.

I destroyed a pair of 7/8 dom hairpins with a stock 350 on a warm day and Mickey Tompsons.

the struggle for me is I really want split bones up front,,I love that look. And obviously bones on the rear will not work from a safety standpoint. My OCD will kick in if the front and rears don't match. so I was also toying with mounting ladder bars inside the frame rails. At this point my head is all over the place lol

I don't know. Myyk got it to work for him. Granted on a Jag rear end. His set up must make a boat load of power.

And the symmetry does look good.

Split bones are traditional and look correct but many rodders claim they are too weak.

Hair pins don't look very strong.

Id go with option 3.. 4 link. It is far superior from a geometry standpoint and theoretically much stronger

Yea, I'm thinking that will be the best. Still allows me to run bones up front and most of the 4 bar will be hidden. I just gotta understand the geometry,,its all new to me lol

With a ladder bar set up like this along with the transverse spring, would still need a Panhard correct?

I KNEW there was a good reason for my analysis paralysis! Gotta check on those things! Just checked Price! $80.00 Each! Guess I’ll keep analyzing.
