Low Slung T

First startup tonight went fairly well. It started and ran nicely but there are some odd things doing on with my electronics. None of which happened before. Horn comes on with the ignition switch. Left front turn signal is not working and one of my sensors on the engine started smoking. I cleaned all the grounds up but that didn’t solve anything. Hmmm

Do you have your engine grounded to the frame ? If not ; you need an engine ground cable.
I do. I’m opting for a bigger one anyway as I believe It may be leading to my third issue but I figured out the first two. The turn signal had a looses connection inside the headlight bucket. The horn, well, I took apart the weatherpack to feed it through the floor and put the wires back in all 1 wire off.

Fun with radiator hoses! The radiator has two different sizes for the hoses. Neither of which match the engines size. I had to spend some time in the parts store and get creative for this lower one.
Also getting some practice in with my tig on this coupler for the hose. I definitely need it.
Windshield glass should be coming soon. I need to get some longer bolts to hold the frame to the posts and then schedule the guy to come.

Also working on mounting the overflow tank. Thinking about welding a stud and something to keep it from turning onto this exhaust clamp. Should work out pretty good.

I used a battery cable ( i believe it was a 2 gauge size ) on my 06 Mazda Miata v6 project. I believe i installed one on each side of the engine. OVERKILL ! LOL !

Got my overflow mounted up. Exhaust clamp. Stainless bolt and some tig welding. Turned out well.
Now I’m in the process of working out some gremlins.
Fan is not turning on. Figure that out just need to fix it.
Alternator getting hot without the car running. Figures that on out too. Just need to fix it. Thanks again ChoppedTop.
Trans cooler is leaking at the inlet. Tried a few things unsuccessfully so far. I think some thread sealant is in order.
Had a dead cylinder. Fixed that. The alternator bracket was in the was of the plug wire making a good connection.
Fan motor makes some awful noise when I jump it. Might have to get a new one. Who knows. Maybe it was from all the antifreeze on it from this next one.
My lower radiator hose blew apart at the seem I made. Hoping that was just bc it wasn’t cooling right. See last pic.
I was hoping to pull it out of the garage this weekend. I’m not thinking I’ll get there. Maybe later in the week or next weekend.

Working out the Gremlins:
Fan is working now.
Trans cooler doesn't leak anymore.
Alternator not longer getting hot.
Radiator hose is back together. Had to adjust where I had the clamp.
Engine is now firing on all cylinders but...It still sounds like it has an intermittent miss. A new injector may be in order.

And the big new thing. My brakes SUCK! I've been doing a little reading on here and I'm thinking I may have my dual reservoir MC plumbed wrong. Currently the small reservoir feeds the front and the big feeds the back. I'm guessing this is backwards. Can anyone confirm this before I start making new lines

I just finished switching them around and bleeding the fronts. Much better so far. Still need to bleed the backs and hopefully it’ll hold itself nicely.

The brake proportioning valve routes more pressure to the front brakes. Most of the cars weight in a rear wheel drive car is in the front ( engine is located in the front ). 60% front & 40% rear. My percentages may be off by a small percentage. Some earlier t buckets didn't use front brakes ( so 100% would be used for the rear brakes ).

Donny Ray - I have the proportioning valve on the rear. My understanding of how it works is, it cuts flow down to whatever line it’s on.

I didn’t take it out of the garage last night. Brakes are still ridiculous, but I’ve realized that my front calipers are on backwards. They have the bleeder pointers by down and it should be up.:whistling: Going to fix that tonight and see if it helps out.
On another note, while cruising it around, I realized why I had a new ujoint on my shelf. The caps started coming out the front one. It had one of those i joints with the plastic molded clips in it and they had been broken already.
My fan is making some god awful noise too. Might have to replace it. Brand new parts...
Otherwise it seemed to go real well. Windshield guy it coming today.

Windshield is in. driveshaft is fixed. R.E.M. weed today that I need a wiper for inspection. Ordered the el cheapo Manual one from speedway. Should have it this week.
Flipped the front caliper sober and now the front brakes seem to work way better. Might need to adjust the backs drum out some.
I think all I need to do is put the belts in and then I’m ready to start going through the title process. 3296896A-0717-4A8C-9D56-F2C1BF062D01.jpeg 772AC916-50D3-483E-B067-1B345B50508E.jpeg 7612B4FF-93E6-4BA7-B5B3-644917CD6D65.jpeg

Just looked at my last post...REM weed = remembered....
Today I adjust my back brakes out so they a pretty tight. The braking system is working way better now. The fronts lock up before the rears without any adjustments on my proportions valve. That’s just at lower speed for now. Took it around the block and got it up to about 3. Seems to be running nice and smooth. It does shift pretty hard though. I may take it to the tranny shop at some point and get that tamed down.
This weekend I’m planning on tearing the seat tub out to put then belts and tunnel cover on. I think I’ll add a few layers of glass to the seats to stiffen them up a bit.

Made some progress today. Got the seat tube back in with the seat belts and all the switches. My windshield wiper is on. Tunnel cover is in.
I took it for some rides and boy is it fun.
Tonight I decided to investigate that fan noise and tore the fan out. Quickly realized that the noise was not the fan motor but the blade rubbing on the radiator. I shimmed the motor out a bit to see if that helped but it didn't I'm guessing the the shroud around it flexes just enough to let the blade move inot the radiator. Looking to get a new more sturdy fan now and maybe one that is a bit thinner so I can space it out more from the radiator if needed.

My temp gauge was reading way off too. Think I figured that out too. Forget to tighten the wire on the sensor. I'd imagine that was the issue but we shall see when I get this fan issue sorted out.

CHASING DOWN GREMLINS : Some will have more & some will have less. I have 4 wheel disk brakes. I'm using a corvette brake proportioning valve.

What are you all using for your vin plate? Is there a nice on I can buy? Where are you putting it at(frame or body)?
