Painting drums, backing plates, hubs, spindles

I'm going with '56 F-100 drum brakes on early Ford spindles using Speedway's conversion kit. I've previously blasted the backing plates and primed both the plates and new drums.
Should I have just sprayed those with an engine or other heat resistant paint instead of priming?
The same with the hubs?
Do you paint the non-shaft part of the spindles?

You should be good with painting primer/top coat. Those parts will get some heat, but not mega-heat like a race car, and yes, I would paint the spindles, masking the shaft of course.
