120V Electric Space Heater

I have an enclosed two car garage. Does anyone know of an electric, 120v space heater that might make a difference ?

About the most you’ll get from a 120V will be a 1500watt heater because they’re all configured for a standard 15 amp receptacle. You just can’t get a lot of electric heat from that small of a source, unfortunately. Since electricity is almost 100% efficient they’re all going to put out around the same amount of heat.

I tried that route back when I had a single car garage in town and it didn’t cut it, even well insulated. I ended up using a “Mr Buddy” propane heater and it worked out decent.

I have a friend that swears he heats his well insulated 2 car garage with a small electric heater. I do find it hard to believe a low wattage heater would do that! I think you would find your electric bill would go through the roof as fast as the heat it produced.
The total cost for my 75,000 btu LP garage heater was just around $1,000. That included the heater, stainless chimney pipe and hookup with the LP tank. It’s a 100 gallon tank. I rent the tank. That cost of the tank is reflected in the cost of the LP. They just refilled the tank and the charge was $49.00. The tank was installed last summer so the cost of the gas for last winter was $49.00. Not bad.

Hi neshkoro,
Did you use your heater to maintain a constant temperature or did you just turn it on when you were out there ?

cfciii03,
Are you referring to the gas unit or the electric unit? If you're referring to my gas heater, it was used only when I was in the garage. Even on the coldest days the garage would heat up to a comfortable temperature in 15 minutes. The concrete floor would never really get warm. I have a piece of carpet that I throw down if I'm going to be laying on the floor.

I'm installing an RV Diesel heater in my workshop for next winter. Around $150.00 Aus to buy on fleabay and cheap as to run. My workshop is a single car garage so about the same inside dimension as a 24' RV. They're very efficient.
Forgot to add, the intake and exhaust for the burner are external to the unit.

Sounds like a reasonable price for a way to heat your garage. I assume you need to add chimney pipe and a fuel tank. For your safety, buy and install a carbon monoxide detector in the garage. It’s cheap insurance.

G'Day Neshkoro, Thank you for your input.
The inlet and exhaust are plumbed to the exterior of the unit they're fitted to, ie; RV/Truck, Shed in my case. A 12V fan directs air over the exterior of the burner chamber and then the heated air is distributed thru ducting to the interior area. These units were originally made for truck cabins in Europe where the drivers were resting overnight in winter. saves running the truck engine all night. The pump injects Diesel into the chamber @ 0.2cc per pulse. There's lots of info on the Net about them.
Regards,
