    7 Degree Taper

Physically I know the tie Rod won’t touch but our rules here in Aus dictate clearances between components. Caster is at 7-1/2 degrees relative to the floor. I did a test today with a shim and It will work good.

    7 Degree Taper

Thankyou for the replies To complicate the issue my tie Rod runs below the lower four bars. I have to maintain a minimum of 1/2” clearance. With 3/16 washers I am to close ! Shim stock it is. Annoying having to do this with “ quality” new parts. Neddo

    7 Degree Taper

Hello All I’m sure some of you have had this problem before. The 7 degree taper in my steering arms is to deep…not the correct word, maybe oversized is better. When castle nut is done up snug split pin hole is above castle nut. A thick washer would make it better but that’s not how it should be...

    Neddo's Bucket

A major milestone has been achieved. My chassis has been approved and issued with a VIN number from the dept of transport. Technically in AUS my chassis is classified as a replica Ford T and dimensionally should be the same wheelbase as a T. I’m at 108” so it could have been rejected.

    Watts Design Question

Maybe if space is real tight you could consider a diagonal drag type panhard at the bottom

    Watts Design Question

Hi AltBantam Your theory about the Watts links is correct I reckon. Watts links move the axle in a gentle S movement. They do not keep the axle at chassis 0 through a full suspension movement. If crank is mounted to axle housing vertical and links are parallel….dependant on which way links go...

    Kangaroo Six

Part 2 Another known trait of these engines is a horrid noise from the front of the engine. Timing chain rattle can be fixed with good quality aftermarket gear but there is another noise ! Camshaft end float would allow rotating parts to touch stationary parts. The fix for this was to drill a...

    Kangaroo Six

Hello, A couple of you have shown some interest in Chrysler 6’s built in Australia otherwise known as the Hemi 6. Before you get excited about spark plugs in the rocker cover type Hemi it’s nothing like that style. The head chamber is similar in shape to a true hemi head but that’s about. The...

    Neddo's Bucket

Spanky I’m not sure what to say…zoomies I totally agree, cool but the Holden reference. I’m not sure if that’s a typo or deliberate. No Holden’s in my shed. fletcherson, I don’t like things all jammed in tight just missing each other. Once I drop the radiator and fan in I have about an 1” gap...

    Neddo's Bucket

The chassis is 4 x 2 x 1/8 up to the engine mounts then it tapers on the bottom to 3” The K member faces forward for a couple of reasons. Torsionally it’s borderline with the K facing backwards with no crossmember under the engine. Secondly facing forward it’s given me space for all my brake...

    Neddo's Bucket

Hello Bucket people. I think I have this picture thing sorted. Thank you moderators. Please let me know if I have done it wrong. Well this is where I am at with my build. There are some things some of you may think are abit odd but there is a reason for most of it.

    E Brakes

Gday Spanky Yes I will be using some Lokar bits and pieces. Foot pedal style E brake from an international scout 2. I am trying to keep everything on my bucket simple and uncluttered and having E brake cable loops visible between the wheels and body is going to be ugly. I’m thinking I may try a...

    E Brakes

Hello I have 10 x 2-1/2 drum brakes on my 9”. I believe they are Kelsey-Hayes from 71 Torino. The E brake cables come out of the backing plates pointing forward. I would like to run the cables along the axle. Basically a 90 degree angle change. Has anyone done this before that may be to help me...

    An Observation

I’m normally not one to be on a forum or belong to club. Politics and agendas normally ruin it however I’m feeling refreshed with what I feel here. I have spent many hours reading hundreds of posts and have come to the conclusion you all should be very proud of what you have here. Apart from the...

    Another Aussie

Thankyou for the welcome. We also used a lot of Sikaflex. Hundreds of gallons of the stuff glueing aluminium ships together. Our Austal US branch is in Mobile, Alabama. I’m retired now but had a fair bit to do with the ships being built for the USN in Mobile.
