    Unable to Fire up Motor

And here's the video of the fire up as I had promised. :D It's not much but my cell phone had just enough juice left to make a 31 second video before it died.

    Unable to Fire up Motor

OK. Let me clear this up. " You wouldn't be trying to put words in anyone's mouth, would you? " Andy: Hoax was not a word I wanted someone to put in my mouth either. I am not sure what prompted a moderator to communicate things in such a way. "EX JUNK is a moderator on this site because he has...

    Unable to Fire up Motor

Yep, in fact she has warned me not to go back into the garage again until tomorrow. Now that the motor's fired up, it's time to button up rest of the stuff and I'm keen to finish up the project so that I can drive it around. As for the distributor, it was not an issue at all. The fact that it...

    Unable to Fire up Motor

The V305 is embossed on the casting of the engine block. It 's on the d-side, near the firewall , on the transmission tunnel surface. The motor was pulled out of the truck from the person I bought it from. It had a stock cover that I posted in the pic. The timing mark is part of the plastic...

    Unable to Fire up Motor

I'll open up the valve covers tomorrow and make sure that has not happened. But here's my question. If I back out the rocker nut by a 1/4-turn, the push rod rotates, but that aside, the rocker arm moves from side-to-side a little because the nut is not tight enough. This side-to-side movement...

Thanks for speaking my mind bowtie! Yes in retrospect it was not very hard. It was just too time consuming. Given that my fuel line was loaded with gas, taking everything apart was not a very good proposition either. But I'm glad that I was able to fix the issue without having to start from scratch.

Thanks! was the inlet valves. there isn't a real easy way to conclude that the inlet valves are closed shut on TDC with the intake manifold bolted on. I must've given them one turn too many.

I will bring the movie. A 30-second clip of my motor firing up

LOL! Sorry about the late response. Some other errands (delegated by the boss) kept me out of the shop for a couple of days. Agreed, that is one long haul!

I really appreciate your response. The motor just fired up this evening. I'm not sure where the *fact* about my distributor moving to the front of my motor originated. I don't recall ever stating that. You're right. If the motor's good, the focus must be about getting it to fire up. Best, Andy

    Unable to Fire up Motor

It was not the timing. Some of the inlet valves were open on the compression-ignition stroke.

    Unable to Fire up Motor

I just saw your response. I am not sure what this means. A guy such as me does not need cheap things such as a hoax to get responses. Maybe some low-esteemed losers who don't have what it takes to shoot straight, not to forget the attention seekers need crap like that! Besides, I do not wish...

Thanks so much for all your valuable inputs. The # of pages that this discussion rolled into is a testament to the fact! That said, I'm not one of those individuals who gives up so easily. Gentleman, I am happy to report that my ride has fired up!:thumbsup::thumbsup: My apologies...

    Unable to Fire up Motor

Ok. Maybe I was unclear on my communication. I have new pushrods .none of them are bent Because they are brand new. This phone is not allowing me to post pictures . But I have confirmed the tdc mark and also this matches with the mark that is on the stock timing cover. I did set it to tdc...

    Unable to Fire up Motor

It was a running motor that the person I knew pulled out from a truck he was using . He later sold that truck which is now being used for racing. The harmonic balancer had rubber that had hardened . So got me a new one, trashed the old one. I noticed that a push rod was slightly bent. Swapped...

I will look at the Hydraulic lifters, and see if they need any adjustments. Fresh fuel went in last Saturday. Never kept the car loaded with fuel unless I wanted to positively start it. This again for reasons of safety. Yep, I will need to test the spark intensity. thanks, Andy

I bought it specifically for a V305. I remember that I had to call in to order it.

    Unable to Fire up Motor

It looks more and more like a timing issue. To your other questions: There is a solid 2-Gauge battery cable running to the Engine from the battery negative. There is a solid 2-Gauge battery cable running to the starter. Meaning, the grounding is absolute! No short cuts. :) Fuel...

Point noted. I will make sure that I yank out the wires when I crank next time.
