    Reborn project

Pulled the car out of winter storage. Here is how it sits today.

    Rear leaf spring, pulling leaves

I put spring liners on my rear spring, as well as rounding and smoothing out the end of the leaves. I think it rides about as good as it is going to get, which is pretty good. Honestly, I think changing the rims and tires made a huge difference. I saved 30 lbs per rear rim/tire by...

    Rear leaf spring, pulling leaves

I ended up running 4 leaves. Rides good, a lot softer.

    Fiberglass resin to hardener ratio

The guy I buy my resin and fiberglass matt from has been running a fiberglass repair shop for decades. 2% is the ratio he uses.

    Front drum options?

I'm running '49 Ford 1/2 ton (F-1) spindles and drum brakes on mine. They stop good, parts are available at any parts store, and they are a good looking brake.

    What are these?

I agree. I'm running a pair of them on my bucket. Actually, I used two passenger spindles with the arms chopped off and Chassis Engineering arms bolted into place.

    Rear leaf spring, pulling leaves

I got them from Amazon. I usually look up the part #'s on rock auto and then look up the number on Amazon. Rock auto's shipping get so screwy with multiple items that it is unreal.

    Rear leaf spring, pulling leaves

    10 gallons.

    Rear leaf spring, pulling leaves

I got the VW Beetle rear shocks the other day. Monroe 31089's at $18 each. I had to drill the eyelet inserts to 1/2" on my drill press, but other than that they seem to fit the bill. They are a 1 1/2" tube versus the 2" tube of the Chev truck shocks. After I got them on, I could push the...

    Rear leaf spring, pulling leaves

I actually found them right away. Monroe 33049. Unfortunately, they have a stud for a top connection, which won't work with my set-up.

    Rear leaf spring, pulling leaves

Well, I got the new spring in. I ditched the top leaf, rounded and smoothed the outer bottoms of the next 3, and installed spring liner in between the 4 remaining leaves. Took it for a ride on the bumpy road to work and it definitely rides nicer. The final step will be the shocks. I'm...

    Rear leaf spring, pulling leaves

I built my car with coil-overs, but mid-build I switched to a Speedway medium arch rear spring. After a summer of driving, I'd like a little softer ride. I'm planning on adding slider buttons or liner to the leaves along with smoothing the ends. Which brings me to the next point. I noticed...

    Windshield frame tubing

My current frame is 38.25" wide and I'd like to go 14 or 15" high, with a frame-less top. So, about 6 feet, cut at 40" and 32".

    Windshield frame tubing

I need to make a new windshield frame. The wind hits me square in the glasses. My current windshield frame is 10 1/2" high and my seat riser is 3" high in front and 1" in the back, so I can't sit any lower. A few years ago, a seller on Ebay was selling bulk tubing, but not anymore. Does...

    Reborn project

Well, I've been driving her to work every sunny day. Even some that ended up not so sunny. I got caught it a hail storm with 60 mph winds. Ouch! Builds character...right? Nothing like getting poured on, pelted by high speed ice, and dodging branches falling on the road, all while hauling ass...

    Reborn project

The bucket has been my daily driver lately. At least, whenever it's not raining. A couple of observations so far: I'm going to have to try some different rear tires. The recapped Hurst cheater slicks look cool, but I can't get them balanced. I tried spinning the tire on the rim, but no...

They're on my "to buy" list. I bought the wheels on a whim, but they're really growing on me.

    Reborn project

The specs of the car as it sits now are: 100" wheelbase on a Youngster inspired 1.5"x 3" frame Spring over 4" drop axle w/'37 Ford split wishbones. Homemade aluminum plate friction shocks. '49 Ford F1 spindles, hubs and brakes. Reversed Corvair steering w/homemade column S10 rear axle(3.42...

    Reborn project

Well, I've been moving my test drive spiral farther and farther from home, and no huge issues so far. I did put some new rims and tires on it. I like them more than I thought I would.

    Reborn project

Today was the first time I've driven my t-bucket in 10 years. Three kids, a career change, endless home repairs, and constant changes in build direction all played a part in turning a 6 month rebuild into a 10 year project. But, looking over at my boys' grins and hearing them yell...
