    reinforcing firewall?

My Spirit fire wall is perfectly flat. I was able to bond a piece of 3/4" plywood to the inside for mounting the gas pedal, fuse box, etc. without any problems. Maybe you can just get a flat replacement firewall, cut yours out and bond the new one in. It would probably end up being less work...

    Help! Electrical fire an smoke???

I'm not an electrical whiz by any means but I believe you have a short somewhere. Apparently your ground is hot as well as the wires that are supposed to be hot. The thing I don't understand is why are you burning up wires and not blowing fuses? I would check the fuse box and make sure you don't...

    Quick steering

I would get the slop adjusted out or find out why it has that amount of play, then you will likely not need anything else. There is something wrong. Move the wheel back & forth slightly and follow it down until you see what's moving and what's not.

    Persistent Detonation

Update: I sold the '55 yesterday. The new owner isn't concerned about the issue, so it's all good. Problem fixed. Thanks for your help.

    My Budget Traditional T Build

Glad you like it! It was a fun build...even more fun driving it! :geek:

    Persistent Detonation

Thank you John. I'll look into it.

    Persistent Detonation

I do happen to have a pretty thick skin, but I don't respond well to insults and hostility in an atmosphere that I imagine was originally intended to be fun, friendly and helpful. I'm positive there is a wealth of knowledge and help here for one with a "stiffer upper lip", and I do appreciate...

    Persistent Detonation

Sorry I haven't been able to work on it and diagnose it further in what you consider a timely manner, other things have taken my attention. I wasn't aware there was a deadline. I wish I had the time, freedom and resources to live up to your standards. I did a lot of those things that you...

    Weak Rear Brakes

A longer pedal would be easy, but I would have to hack up the floor so that's not an option. A more compatible mc is a good idea, but which one is more compatible?

    Weak Rear Brakes

Another update: I drove the car to a show yesterday, about 160 miles total, so I was really able to evaluate the brakes. The bias is just about perfect but the pedal effort is about 10%-15% more than I had initially thought. Not the end of the world, but it's noticeable and significant for me...

    Weak Rear Brakes

Update...I moved the proportioning valve to the front and there is a HUGE improvement! Wow, I never would have thought, but that's the ticket. There is no noticeable difference in pedal effort and I was able to dial in the perfect amount of front/rear bias. I am very relieved as this will save...

    Weak Rear Brakes

Thanks for the info. Maybe it won't be so bad after all. Time will tell...I'll let you know how I make out...

    Weak Rear Brakes

Hmm, thanks for that. Very interesting indeed. I understand the theory. The only thing about my setup is I have manual brakes and I really have to stand on them pretty firm to get it to stop as it is. I can't imagine cutting pressure to the front, how much force it would take then. I noticed...

    Weak Rear Brakes

I was thinking about installing the proportioning valve to the front, but as you mentioned Hotrod46, decreasing braking to the front to balance out already poor braking didnt seem like the thing to do, but chopped top says it works, so maybe that's an option... I had no idea this was such a...

    Weak Rear Brakes

I have the fronts plumbed to the large reservoir and the shoes are adjusted correctly. I agree regarding using all the same mfg equipment but this setup was recommended to me and is supposed to be common for T Buckets and is supposed to work together.... but not for me. The calipers are for mid...

    Weak Rear Brakes

I've been playing around with this for months now. I have GM front discs, S-10 rear with the clip in wheel cylinders (not positive of the year or the bore sizes), and the mid-70's Ford master cylinder (manual disc/drum) that was recommended and I thought is common to these cars. Wilwood 2lb...

    AmericanGraffiti's Project Diary

I really wanted to use the friction shocks on mine, but all the negative comments I read about them steered me toward the hydraulics. But the whole package has to work together. If you have poor design, some will blame it on the friction shock.

    Cost of Paint Job

That price is dirt cheap if he's painting the whole thing. Preparation is the key here. You can use the best paint available and if it's not prepared correctly, it will not last. Make sure you get some type of written warranty with it. I used Summit base/clear paint on mine. I think all the...
