A shift kit will generally firm up the shifts, but how much sort of depends on the general health of the trans to start with. . . Low pressure or worn clutches aren't magically going to get better.
There's been a number of threads on the subject of converters . . . . If you have bad creep at stop signs/lights and really have to hold the brake hard, . . a higher stall converter can help there
A lot always depends on a number of other variables . . . . as to shifting and drivability . . how is it shifting / driving now that you feel you'd like to change, and what direction do you want that change to go in . .
