Birth of Long John

Oops! Guess I’ll keep trying. Sometimes it works. See picture of body mock-up. It was taken with the same phone. I’ll keep trying. Until then sign in to Grumpys Performance Garage! Lol

Got in the shop today and made som progress. Found it’s easier to notch rectangular tube with a flap wheel than a tube notcher. Got them fitting pretty good.
Had to figure the taper of the frame to get the angle for the tortion bar as I can’t get the notcher on with the tubes together. Frame ended up 10” in the front and 8’ to the rear is 26 1/2” at the firewall. The alternator bracket I wanted to use won’t fit so I need to find another that fits in a 22” frame. Any ideas?

ORF, what you think your wheelbase will be? Mine is 121":

Very nice ride. Going to the Springfield T-bucket Nats this year. 500 miles.

School busses seem to get around so I should be ok. Lol
I will be fabbing my steering arms to correct Ackerman with the extended wheelbase and the narrowed axle. I have been dreaming about this for a long time so I hope I thought about everything.

But are you going to have the ground clearance of a school bus? If not, you may get hung up on some driveway approaches for example. IMHO.

Jim

Right now I have the motor set up for 5 1/2” of ground to pan but the frame clearance is 8” (gallon paint cans). I will probably go up on both to make it easier to get my cripple butt in and out of the car.
With my first car I got pretty good at spotting high center obsticals and only had 4” clearance if I remember right.
