Figuring fuel tank capacity

With a round tank instead of length x width use the area of a circle, which is A=3.1416 x radius squared, then multiply by the length of the tank. That will give you the cubic inches that you'll then divide by 231.

I like figuring using apple pie.

The length x width x height will give you the cubic inches and then divide by 231. As there are 231 cubic inches in a gallon.

I have to do that many time each day for customers. How about an oval tank, or a rectangular tank with on edge cut back 3 " and on a 45 degree angle. Glad I liked solid geometry in school.

What i did with an oval tank was to make one out of poster cardpaper, filled it with Perlite, dunped it in a cardboard box and did the l x w x d & divided by 231. Was off by a half pint. Didn't like geometry in school.

I filled mine with gas and the pump told me how much I had put in. ;)

How about a star shaped yank. Think i saw one some where.Figure this capacity

Russ' method would work nicely on Gerry's tank.
