Galveston, Texas T Party!

I had already requested September 19 -22 off work.(due to previous conversations on board).. made reserves at Silver Leaf resort Galveston... I have another couple that are not on this board with a t-bucket that had planned on following.

I think there was someone else who had liked those dates too. In my opinion, that would be the better weekend.

The Commodore is very cool. Very 60's and beach view. I'm going to keep this weekend open and see if I can make it.

Missed the Nats and the Bash.

Where's the Silver Leaf?

me and the wifey took the kids down to galveston a few weeks ago. we stayed in the Flagship. its the hotel out over the water. its an older hotel but the rooms where clean and it was fun for the kids being on piers out over the water. the elevators where a little scare tho, made a lot of strange noises:eek:..... we'll most likely stay at the Commodore 'cause the wifey alway wanted to stay there, and its on the seewall....

the Silverleaf is 14 miles west of 61st Street, way west. I have stayed at The Commodore and the Flagship as well as other budget hotels on the seawall. The problem with overnite on the seawall is security. I hate staying overnite at a hotel in the bucket. Wake up every hour or two worrying and getting up and look out the window.

I ain't got a problem with Sept 20 weekend. But if you were counting on Weelstang, that is the same weekend as the Gathering of Wheels in Artesia NM.

I can prolly get the West Houston bunch to come down but I doubt we stay the night. We'll prolly come down either Sat or Sun once more is worked out.

Fred,

I'll make a day trip out of it. If it's just going to be me, I'll come down on the bike. Maybe...? I can talk my better looking half into going. If successful, we'll still be down for a while on that Saturday.

That would be cool, Paul. It's all about hanging out. Besides, a motorcycle is just a T Bucket that falls over, right?:pint:

Fred....

If it falls over while standing still, I can handle that.....Don't ask..
Anyway, it sounds like a good time. Anything I can do to help? Let me know.

It's still on! Like I originally posted in the beginning, I will be on that webcam at 10:00am on the 20th of September. I'm still up in the air about whether or not to get there Friday evening or not, but I will be there. I may get there Saturday morning and get a room reserved for that day, But I will be there.

For those planning to come, keep in mind that this is NOT an organised event! So, there will be NO police escorts or road blocking or reserved parking areas. This is just a " OH gee. I didn't know you were here. Nice hot rod." type of thing.

The city wanted a HUGE amount of money to do all the stuff you normally get at a planned, city backed event. So much so, that I have a whole new respect for people who can pull something like that off.

Anyway.... if ya can make it, please do. If you don't have a T Bucket, no sweat. Just show up. It's all about meeting people, the T Buckets are a bonus.

I know this is still a ways off, but wonder where would be a good place to just kinda "show up"...at..and the time....I will be coming in Friday evening, but will go on into Galveston Saturday morning and plan to hang out until later that evening.

I will have to be heading back home on Sunday morning.

I know that "The Spot" is a good place to eat, meet and hang out.

Always see ALOT of bikes there.

Looking forward to this event!

I',m sure as the date gets near, we'll all get things set up for a meeting spot. Worse case scenerio, we trade cell phone numbers and co-ordinate things. Kinda like a Hot Rod invasion!:D

We're hoping to make it, although we haven't made our reservations yet.

Any sort of an idea of a place to eat Saturday night? There's a really neat seafood place down at the cruise ship dock. All the ships should be gone by 5 p.m. or so.

This webcam points at where the ships dock. The restaurant is just to the left of the photo.

That the one just south of the museum ?? Was a good a place to eat if it is ?

It may be "Fisherman's Wharf." I can't tell for sure. We ate there the night before one of our cruises, and it was very good.

The hotel looks to cost about $155/night, which is a little pricey.

anyplace on Friday thru Sunday is gonna be pricey. I like the Commodore. And some good seafood is Gaidos, right on the seawall. Got a HUGE crab on top of the building. One place we ALWAYS go when we are there is Mario's Seawall Itailian Resturant, 628 Seawall Blvd. pizza, pasta and seafood. GALVESTON RESTAURANT GROUP - Galveston, Texas

It is the BEST pizza ANYWHERE. Right on the seawall across from Stewarts Beach just east of the Flagship Hotel. We will be eating there sometime on Saturday for sure.
