Greetings fellow hot rodders! Thanks to a phone call to Ron Pope, I now know how to post new threads, so figured I would start by introducing myself. I'm 66, not terribly tech savvy, but have always been good with cars (with carbs!).

First t bucket I built about 20 years ago now, drove like there was no tomorrow for about 12 or 13 years, then decided to tear it apart for "real" paint (not rattle can). Stored the body in our pole barn and one night in the middle of the night, the whole barn went up in flames. Lost my performance boat, lots of stuff.

After a couple years trying to figure out what to do, the little woman (Gail, now married 44 years) suggested a body big enough to haul 4. So my t tub was born. Unfortunately, some significant health problems sidelined me for a good while, so I'm just finishing up details on it now. Everything's been painted except the body and a few other things. Chassis is done in medium blue and medium gray as is the jaguar IRS. 1971 400 sbc (now 406), built from the bottom up and blue, as is the 700R4. Body and other items will be purple metallic by a pro ($$$). Has 2 SS 1/2 kegs all plumbed for gas on the stake rack. Has Weld Draglite wheels front (15 X 3.5") and back (15 X 8), has new tires on the front, and will order some new Cokers for the rear this week.

Still a lot of detail and stuff to do, but it's getting there. It is truly a labor of love for me.

Hey Island Girl! We like to vacation on Aruba...

Soon as I get a few more posts up, will post some pics of my project, including my newly done jeweled dash.

The Alhambra is one of our sister properties, hope you've enjoyed your time in the tropics . . .

Hi fro the UK. Jag IRS always gets my attention

Hi Dave! Good to hear from you pal. Soon as I get a few more posts in, I'll post some pics. Darn jag has a very slow pinion seal leak, but not bad enough for me to spend a bunch of bucks fixing it. On top of that, finding anybody around here that could!

Where is that? Spain? We love the Aruba island just off the northern coast of Venezuela. May go again next year. This year it's Myrtle Beach for a week mid-April, then up along the Main coast after Labor day for a week, 10 days.

We used to have a small RV, but sold it and plan to get another one when we sell our property here and move closer to the kids and grandkids. Then it's either a large double axle pull-behind or a small 5th wheel.

Enjoy!

Thought you had a spray gun ?
Is that jag pinion seal any different than any other pinion seal , it's not that difficult to replace usually .......

I do have a spray gun (more than one) and a big dual stage compressor. I've used it to prime the body for sanding to have a pro do the final painting. If you saw the kind of work this guy does, you would understand why I'm using him. Can you say mirror-like finish? Plus he has an equipped shop. I have to wait for summer, and can only paint outside.

I am supplying this fellow all the materials though. Specialist Paints out of the UK who recently established a US location in sunny FL. Will be a black base with a purple pearl on top (with some small metalflake), finished by a show clear they sell: Custom Paint | Pearl Paint | Aerosol Can Paint - Candy Paint

I replaced the pinion seal maybe 10 or 12 year ago when the leak was much more. I forget the details now, but I did not have the right tools (had to fab one!) or time or both to do a complete job. Something about spring load I think. Jags are complicated, and getting a reputable repair job (at least where we live) to work on a 70's Jag IRS is nigh impossible!

I'm gonna say this at the risk of upsetting someone ? With today's BC,/ cc paints , if you have the surface properly prepped , it's damn near impossible to screw up a paint job , that " smooth as glass" BS is because the paint was cut and buffed , there's VERY few painters ,without a baking oven ,who can lay single stage on slick , every thing else is cut / buff ...IMO ..

It's prepping the surface for a glass-like job that I'm not great at. No experience with stuff like that. I can wield a paint brush all day, but that kind of finish is beyond me. This is not single stage, it's three stage: base, paint and clear. He also has a paint booth, where I would have to do this when the weather is right, and do it outside with dust, insects, you name it, even if it got moved back in the garage right away. I built my own engine, but am gonna leave the paint for a pro. Also, my only paint guns are Harbor Freight el cheapos, not the high end stuff he has.
