Kingpin fit

Hey Ron...Regarding round tube axles...just how tight are the kingpins as they pass thru the axle?
My axle (NOT one of yours!) has a lot of play and it was seemly made that way.
Is it normal for the setscrew to take up the slack or???

set screws are to stop the king pin moving in the axle. To do it correctly you need to have the axle set up in a mill at the correct angle and bored. Then have a 'sleeve made that is a push fit and welded top and bottom, finally reamed to the same size as the king pin diameter.

After all that has been done and when you have redrilled for the set screw, a new set of king pin bushes should be placed in to your stub axle and line reamed to fit.

Its one of the reason that later axles like this had a tapered bolt (with nut at one end that could be tightened up and provide the best location) that went thought the axle and king pins to provide a positive engagement and stop any movement of the king pin in the axle.

But there again, what do I know :D
