Ted Brown suspension

Have you got a pic of the set up you are referring to?
 
Volksnut's pic looks like his, long spring with bolts going thru it like a Vette's rear sup.
 
Spring ends are mounted w/rubber/urethane bushings , Ted said , IIRC , that it didn't need a panhard bar , that the bushings were "self-locating"

Yeah, that springs sits relatively flat. So thick walled bushings would do it.

I like it. No need for a lateral control. And the spring right through the center of the 4-bars.

Those 4-bars in single shear surprises me too. I'd add a couple more brackets.
 
I remember Ted saying he had driven his T for almost 100K miles with no major problems, so the single shear seems to have worked for him.

The spring is flat so theres relatively no deflection that would require shackles within the normal range of motion.
If you have a high arch spring there is a lot of deflection, so a shackle will see a lot of movement as the spring works.
Bet that rides nice with that long spring.
