After starting to build my own grille, I have new found respect for the guys who hand built dirt track cars and indy cars in the 40', 50's and 60's. 074.JPG075.JPG076.JPG077.JPG078.JPG084.JPG085.JPG086.JPG

Nicely done! Are you going to run bars or mesh?

Ron

Going to put seven 5/16 round bars vertically as soon as I have a wood patterns made to curve the bars and space them evenly

Speedway nose?

Its made from 3/16 plate, so it took some work to form it to the shape of the nose. I just didn't like the looks of the Speedway Motors grille that has horizontal bars and is cast aluminum. When this one is done, I'm going to have it coated in chrome look powder coating.

Nice work!

Man! Nice work! I bought the Speedway grille with the horizontal bars. I never even thought of building a grille from scratch. I have often thought that the grille would look better with vertical bars. Looking forward to seeing the finished piece...

What method did you use to shape that plate?

I decided to use 1/8 thick flat steel for bars. There will be 21of them evenly spaced across the opening.

Wow that's coming together nicely. Two phrases come to mind; "Craftsmanship is king" & "Necessity is the mother of invention".
