windshield post from speedway

I just got my plain windshield post from speedway today and they look like raw casting made from brass,Could someone tell me the process for painting these , Do I sand these with sandpaper or a grinder to get them smooth enough to prime and paint

I took the wire wheel on my bench grinder and it smoothed them out pretty well. Not real stiff wire.

Use a file to get rid of the casting lines and then sand them with 180 grit paper. Couple good coats of primer, block them out and paint.
