Anyone using a LS series engine?

I like low rpm grunt, would you say the LS has good/great off idle performance? Thanks, Do you have the 4 + 3 speed? I had an 86 Vette with the manual tranny, so tell me if you like the off idle pull better than the stock engine.

I went through a few engine combos before settling on the LS swap. My last set up had a Procharger on the L-98 with a Holley Stealth Ram and the car is more powerful now with the LS than it has ever been. It starts pulling sooner than the blower motor and pulls all the way up to 6300. Now, it probably has lost the very bottom low end torque provided by the long tube runners of the TPI but it is WWAAAYYYY more motor and the TPI. I am running a 700R4 behind the motor not the 4+3.

A LS motor and the 700R, you must really like your '87 Vette. You answered my question about the off idle performance of the LS, and I thank you. If I don't see any oil consumption (my post for help with circle track race oil pans) on a upcoming 500 mile trip mostly on Interstates, then my desire for an LS motor can be moved to my "wish list" instead of having to replace my 355 sbc engine. I did enjoy the dream of having an EFI LS engine in the Track T and more than likely will sometime in the future.

Yep, that would be an understatement. I've owned it for 13 years and all my hard work paid off when my car was featured in Vette Magazine this month. The kicker? It made the cover. :hoist:

Awesome!! Gives me hope for my 86 C4. I'm been thinking hard about a swap or just building a mean-ass stroker motor... Guess I'll have to pick up Vette Mag this month and check it out!:hi:

With a 'Vette that fine, I don't suppose it is a plain wrapper LS? Also I am curious about what your ride is that is a T? With your over the top treatment of the Corvette, do you have the same passion for your T? I'm still kinda new here and am not familar with your T.

I don't post much about it. I'm reading and learning most the time when I'm here. It's a serious work in progress. I bought it from a member here and went to Georiga to get it. In the year I've had it I've been changing everything about it that didn't suit me. I recently bought new wheels and tires for it. I've not made up my mind on the interior yet but it will be over the top as well I'm sure. I don't have the passion for the T yet but I haven't owned it forever either. The Vette has always been a childhood dream.

Here's a shot of the T as it sits. I've added 4" to the bottom of the body, cut the seat backs and lowered them, removed the keg tank for a normal one and am adding a bed. Put the motor that came out of the Vette in the T with a tunnel ram and 2 Holley 390's. I am going to use a 55 Chevy cluster for my speedo. New turbo 350 and the wheels and tires you see on it.

If a new tranny is needed, why not a 700R for the T? Also, I know I should just buy the magazine, but what state of tune is your LS engine?

I already had a brand new built 350 laying around so it didn't cost anything. On the LS it's got ported throttle body, LS6 intake, cam, longtube headers and tune. When the funds present themselves I'll be putting a set of heads on it to match the cam.

Yes heads, there is a big factor in bottom end performance or not... Small heads and small tube headers make for a ton of bottom end and instant tire smoke. Big heads and large tube headers can stop most all the tire burn using the right tires and lift rods... I good friend just asked me if I wanted to install a LS type engine in my T, I said I for sure did not really want any more power, and was almost thinking of a new 4 banger type engine, and make it look like a BIG old style V8 with 3 or 4 carbs... and she will be totally quiet... No more of the wrong heads turning my way, on the highway :)

I have a friend that works at a shop that only does ls series work. These motors are very impressive and can produce serious power if done right. You said you might want to have fuel injection, check companies like fast fuel injection, and inglese. Texas speed and race proven motorsports are two good companies that build these motors and they have tons of infoon their websites. Are you gonna run the pcm with this motor and what trans are you thinking about running

Found this on Edelbrock forum. I am using the 1409 Carb 600cfm

This RPM manifold made 410 hp and 418 ft/lbs. of torque in dyno tests with our matching cam #2215 and Performer Series carb #1413 800cfm.

Yes, it will bolt right up. There will need to install a spacer for the stock flexplate or get one of the adapter plates that are available. The spacers are around 50.00 and the adapter plates very from 135. to 190.00
I am using the TH350C with a lockup torque converter.
