COMP Cams Nitrous HP Camshafts Camshaft, Hydraulic Flat Tappet, Advertised Duration 284/ 305, Lift .575/ .595, Chevy, Big Block,
Bought it from Summit racing. Has 113 degree lobe separation & was as recommended by Comp Cams for a mild 468 with TRW blower pistons, a 671 and twin 750 Edelbrocks.
CCA 12-404-4 Comp Cams 268AH-14 for a Blower or Turbo.
Camshaft, Hydraulic Flat Tappet, Advertised Duration 268/276, Lift .464/.464, Lobe center 114 Chevy, Small Block
Mine is a custom grind from Comp, spec'ed by my short block builder to meet my objectives of a strong low end and a lumpy idle. I didn't get a cam card from him, so I used a degree wheel kit to try to reverse engineer the cam and came up with an .050 duration of 231 intake, 236 exhaust, .478 lift (at the valve), 109 LSA (more overlap than recommended for a blower because you end up blowing some of the charge out the exhaust, but that's where the lumpy idle comes from).
Edit: I shoulda mentioned, it is a hydraulic roller.
a cam with 114 overlap does still give a lopey idle. A blower will tame a 108-110 overlap cam idle. I would not have a smallblock blower motor without a 114 cam. But thats my opinion.
I run a fairly mild lift Lunati custom grind.......with your intake pressurized by the blower....lift really doesn't help or hinder too much..... as long as its healthy..........matter of fact......on the dyno, if your lift causes some turbulance when the valve opens, it helps atomize the mixture some. You get your flow by your duration usually. All this varies with what your doing and the flow characteristics.
Oh yea....I forgot......a roller valvetrain with a pete jackson geardrive. have just started my engine last weekend...........
I have read about the valve turblance. The cam I picked 238 intake 248 exhaust @ .050 with .540 lift on a 114. It should be easy on the valvetrain.I do have roller rockers, big pushrods and a noisy P. Jackson. Thanks for the help guys.
My bumpstick is quite similar to what you got there,,,,,,oh yea....that reminds me.... wheelie bars................:surprised:
Roller rockers check, Pete Jackson check, wheelie bars "O S___ !!!!!" I knew I forgot something.
Dude your car sounds sweet. When will you post pics???
Yea.....I'll send ya some photos when she's all together........I work in my shop for all the other folks.....then I steal about 45 minutes here....15 minutes there, a hour after dinner sometimes. One advantage of having my own shop.
Alot of the time, things will be moving thru the shop to be worked on or isn't up to racing standards and has to be replaced..........my eyelid kinda pops up, the corner of my mouth starts to quiver...........wrenches start to fly and my TIG starts making sparks.........something for the bucket is born!........
I moved up here from New Orleans back in 2002........put up a house here and a shop........we've built some strange stuff over the years.......I wish I had photos of........
1. A Harley-Davidson 165 rigidframe with a blown honda 750 in it......one of the first pro-street bikes.
2. A 460 ford engine / FMX trans. / 9" w/3.90's in a VW Beetle.
3. A totally independent suspensioned racing goKart with a Suzuki GT-750 3 cyl. 2-stroke with allout expansion chambers......made big power from 5800 rpm on up.........redlined at 9000.......
4. A little Subaru Brat with a 283 and a turbo 400 in it with monster mudders......(won quite a few races I heard)....I repowered that one twice......
Now....this one I'm gonna take photos of...............
I'm around race cars all the time.......and the little T's....ya just gotta love em'......all engine and tires....... believe it or not....I'm scared to death of pulling the wheels up and loosing it......I have no basis for this and I've seen it happen only 2 or 3 times at the track in my life......its not like its ever happened to me before.........but I'm gonna make sure all the power is concentrated in the forward direction......
Full-on blown mountain motors heatin' the tires up before a pass by the tree and watching those big slicks gettin' really skinny just does it for me.................
