Bonneville (slightly O/T)

Tommorow night Discovery Channel is going to repeat the documentary they did a few weeks ago. If you didn't get a chance to see it you might find it interesting. They focus primarily on three teams but they do show a few roadsters. The highlight for me is Leslie Porterfield and her attempts to break 200mph on a turbocharged Hyabusa. A few weeks after this event she returned to Bonneville fo rthe BUB Trials and set a rcord of 234mph and became world's fastest woman on a motorcycle. A friend of mine was there and met her and I will be there in August to shake her hand as well. I don't know the speed she attained on the broom. (Thanks again Rick for bringing the show to my attention)

I'll be there in September with a Camaro that a friend and I are building. I am hoping to at least get my competition license.

You're going out for WoS. I wanted to go to that but I am supposed to go to a golf tournament in Mesquite, NV and it's dates got changed to it will be more convenient to go to BUB. I really wanted to see the cars run but I'll have to settle for Leslie.

Here is a picture of Sonny Rossi's Cosworth-Vega powered 23 T. He runs the same class as the class I want to run in.

Make you post up something a couple months ahead of time. Bonneville is about a 7-8 hour drive for me. I haven't been in a couple years, and would love to meet up with you again, and see you run.

I remember seeing Sonny at the street rod nationals many years ago. He was a real neat guy as I remember. How long has he been a salt racer?

I didn't know he was into it until I found this picture at the USFRA web site. I remember seeing the car sitting on a trailer in a picture taken at a gathering of Inliners at his place in Texas a couple of years ago but it didn't register that it was a salt racer. He used to write technical articles from time to time in Streetrodder back in the 90s. That's where I first heard of him. I don't know if he still writes them or not.

Sonny and his wife used to live here in Houston. Ain't seen him in years so maybe he's still here, don't know????

I remember Sonny's build of this car in Street Rodder and miss all his shop trick articles. We sure could use his skills in here for Tech.
