Cleaning tci race converter

I am selling a TCI 8'' chevy race converter, i am looking for a reputable shop that can clean it(split it) for less than tci(not thinking i bought the t-400 with the converter off, i carefully(no lint) dipped a rolled up paper towel into the atf it came out with some dirt from sitting uncovered (not metal debris) tci wants $250 to clean, and inspect, the converter, it worked well before the tranny was removed , the inside of the trans is clean.

Does anyone know what a T-400 reverse pattern transmission W/brake and converter is worth?
Thanks for your help, Keith

Depends on wear and tear, how many passes it has on it. Your location in the country.
To a racer in need, the trans is worth about 350-550, trans brake about 150, and the converter about 250....run a ad or post it on the racer bulletin board.....the whole shebang ought to snatch 650-750 easy if in great shape....
Some trans shops have a converter washer setup, just gotta ask them. All it is, is a glorified pump with a filter.... let me ask you, does your converter have a drain plug on the body? If so, do it yourself. Or take it by a trans shop to get flushed....

We drill a 1/8th hole in the TC and then drain it fully. Flush it with something (gas). Then just use a mig to weld up the hole.
BEWARE that gas in a converter and a mig weld can produce an explosion.......

Down to you, if you do this. Often get a POP as the gas ignites, but we do leave them for a couple of days, and then blow them through with an air line from the 1/8th hole. Otherwise just flush them with clean fluid and let that drain., then weld the hole up.

I drill a hole for a 1/8th brass pipe plug at the lowest point of the curve closest to the weld halves and as close as possible to the flex plate mounting hole so it won't be out of balance that much.

If you have a parts washer at your shop, shove a piece of hose over your nozzle, put a nipple on the other end of that hose, then reduce it to screw into the 1/8npt hole. I would suggest doing this with clean, fresh fluid. let it flush for several hours, then change its position....flush some more....
