Those are attached to the very tiny gas tank mounted on the firewall. You have to fill-up about every 30 feet. More if the float bowls are low.

Looks like it’s just a fuel log fed via the end. Those look like some serious ID fuel lines!

You are probably right, guess I've never seen one that feeds from the back side.
