Engine HP

I had 627 with my old engine (blown 454) on the dyno and am aiming for over 800 on the dyno with my blown 540 engine.

Both engines have proven to be nice street engines. Blowers let you use a smaller cam so that helps make it streetable, and the torque is just plain unreal. Only downside with a blown motor is keeping it cool. A T radiator isnt a big unit.

440 normally aspirated HP sounds good fun provided you still have vacuum for your brakes. Im not keen on "peaky" engines that have no bottom end grunt

It shouldn't be a problem, I built a 383 c.i. SBC 2 years ago that made 452 HP on a dyno and this is my second trouble free summer of cruising with it. If I remember right the mildly built 265 c.i. SBC I originally put in the bucket back in 1967 gave me more problems.

For everyday driving your rpm is probably going to be low enough that you are living at less than 200 hp anyway.

305 sbc with about 200hp. Plenty for street cruising and basicly trouble free.

Its all in what you want, it doesn't have anything to do with need. You can't really USE 440 Horses....can't get these little monsters to hook hard enough!
If you want 500, get yourself a 500 horse dynotuned motor, so, you know its making that! Strap that puppy in and rip all the thread off those tires!
Rons Probably running 500+ easily. Also BlownT and a few others Like HotRodTodd. Want it yes. Need it, no!

I deal with alcohol FC's, alky and nitro Altereds. A Altered is basically a fancy Bucket with a very large powerful motor. I love the sport, I love those cars, and I love the folks that race them.
Its all they can do to keep the car in their lane the biggest majority of the time. Its all over the place!, And this is with slicks, 4 links with panhards, adjustable everything, and you can only put so much to the ground before the tires spin!
The altereds, funnycars, or top fuelers can smoke the tires at any time at will. These things are set up so the tranmissions 'slip' to apply all that power thru the wheels to the track.
If that rear tire is turning anymore than just a little faster than a slightly spinning tire on takeoff, thats wasted power. We take power out of the motors so the clutches can slip, with minimum tire slippage. Everyonce-in-a-while we go wrong way, or theres something broke, we go up in smoke. Run the motors alittle too long, too much heat, too much torque, they'll smoke em!

600 horses in a T? Use it ? NO. Want it? YES! Theres nothing like smokin' a 911 porsche away from a light or walking away from them while rolling along about 35 mph and driving that nail home.....

The T is the origional open classed hot rod muscle car, plain and simple!

There is no such thing as TOO MUCH power, you just have to able to hook it up as Screamin says.

I was over at the brother in laws shop the other day checkin out the new 63 Pro Mod Vette. On the passengers side roll cage there are 2 shelves. I ask what is that for? They are for computers. One collects all the engine data and records it, while the other controls the rear shocks. This car has the newest electric controlled rear shocks on it to help make it hook. I'll have to get some pics of it for you. It weighs 2200 lbs and has a 706 Chevy that made 1245 hp on the dyno, naturally aspirated. He is lookin for some high 6 second 1/4 miles at over 200

My 355 sbc from the builder, dyno'd 387HP/413Ft-lb. What magic they did to get that, I'll never know. To pull that out of a vortec-headed (9.75:1), no-vac-advanced, on 93 octane with chi-com intake and 600 Edelbrock? I'm figuring electric water pump and no other accessories and timing tweaked beyond driveability.

No matter, even if I only see 300 at the flexplate, it's more than I can use meaning just enough! :thumb:
