Does anyone have any dealings with the fabricated valve covers? I like the shape but I was wandering if they are thick enough to sand the welds smooth and polish
Well, my friend.......that depends.............I wish I had a dollar for everyset I've made........but it most depends on whose made them...........
A good rule of thumb is if you put your favorite made covers on your work bench, flange down, stick out your index finger and do your best 'Bruce Lee' impression and try to stick your finger thru the cover......ie, the finger of death...............
If the cover doesn't flex..............I'd say its thick enough..........if it flexes...........leave it alone........all the ones I've made..........are out of 1/8 or 3/32, 1/16 isn't bad as long as you pay close attention..............anything less than 16 ga., I'd say no...........
Just for reference................1/8 is right at 10 ga...............
There are alot of folks making those covers: Moroso, Ford Racing, Mickey Thompson, Milodon, Ed Pink, and Keith Black, the last 2 have, which I believe, have sold out or gone outta business.....they were some great folks and will be sorely missed, but there were many others that made the really thick, heavy Aluminum valvecovers.
