Flathead "T"

Hello, I am retired and am building an old school T bucket. I have built the frame and have a 49 8ba flathead that I want to use. Have mocked up a buggy spring rear end (9" Ford) set up. Could anyone give me advice or point me to some reading on the front suspension and best axle to use with the flathead. It seems the flathead is tall and ground clearence is where I can't seem to visualize a good looking rake or need a step ladder to get in the bucket. Thank you for any thoughts

Hi, still very new at this... tired to reply to Youngster as I am very interested in his front end set. Wonder if Youngster's set would provide adequate height for a Flathead. Thanks for your reply, I tried to put a pic of my frame so far but again I am new to since wonderful forum. Mike

hiya Kid .... that frontend set up will work well with the fathead. It's all in how the front spring perch is set in relation to the front crossmemeber. you canuse a "35 to '40 axle with great results. Stay away from the '41 to '48 axles unless it's real cheap and has the front brakes on it. The wishbone is wider and that cuts the turning radius down conciderably.

Hi from 50's Kid, After talking with Youngster, I definatly want to copy his set up for a front end suspension. I am waiting for a "40" axle and wish bone to get here. My question today is which end do you start with? Set the rear end at a height you think is what it will be without all the ride load and start tack welding the front suspension together or vice versa. I know the caster angle is very important as well as the differential tipped back. Is this the age old question which comes first the chicken or the egg?
