Yea, that 10 minute "edit" timer is a real drag.
I didn't want to hijack
My First T-Bucket Build
cmcdanl (Chase)
thread any further so I'm starting this thread.

Maybe if we post a FEW changes that would be good for the membership, the changes might get done sometime in the future. Now I don't think it would be helpful to post every little thing that each one wants changed, but those that we keep hearing about on a regular basis. Ok, so how do I proceed without creating hard feelings? This IS NOT intended to be a high pressure thread for Ron Pope.

1.) Remove the 10 minute edit rule for a thread that you create, not another member's post. [This would also make it possible to edit the subject line if you are the original poster with another setting.]

2.) Remove the required 10 posts before uploading an attachment.....images, graphics, PDF files.

Any other suggestions for those ideas that keep coming up?

figure out a simple and uniform method for uploading photos that works for everyone... not complaining, I used photo bucket till now, but that's out. If the upload file button is now working, good, the last time I tried it didn't. It has been a while since I uploaded pics.

I wonder what is wrong with the upload button......I can upload photos from my hard drive with out a problem...I have not used Photo Bucket in quite some time......This photo was just uploaded from my hard drive...If the file is more than 1 MB it will not upload......DSCN2503.JPG

What am I missing in posting photos, this forum is real easy once you post that 10th post.......??????

I try to keep all my photos at 170kb or less. The larger the photo the more space it uses on the server, which in turn will eventually run the cost up for the web site. On the two web sites that I keep for a couple of clubs, all old photos are deleted once they become 1 year old. They are still available for anybody that requests them.
Maybe the 10 post rule, that Mike enforced, was trying to keep trolls from jumping in and posting unwanted things? ?

I get the reason for the 10 post rule, but a lot of other sites don't have it. It's so easy to get around, that it would be a minor problem for a scammer.

Both of choppedtop's comments above are very true. Those who have been around since the days when Mike was still with us will remember that he always advocated using off site storage for pictures. @choppedtop hit the nail on the head when he wrote "The larger the photo the more space it uses on the server, which in turn will eventually run the cost up for the web site." Also the more pictures that are posted, even small ones, the closer we (Ron) get(s) to needing and paying for more space. Keeping / resizing your pictures to a smaller file size will help with this, 170kb or less is a good start. I like the idea of deleting photos that are a year old or some other time frame. The ten post rule is primarily to weed out those who want to post pictures of stuff for sale without bothering to participate in the forum.

I am not a fan the idea of deleting photo's.
I think you would end up with ruined threads like some of the ones we have now due to the photobucket fiasco.
Personally my build thread I think is coming up on two years.
If I knew photo's would be deleted after 1 or two years I wouldn't have bothered posting them in the first place.
Server storage is cheap. Take a look at ipowerweb, unlimited storage for $4 a month.

Some peoples work, some don't. We discussed this some time back, supposedly it was addressed but I have never been able to do it except via photobucket so I simply did it that way and didn't complain. Again, I haven't attempted to post any pics for a while, it may have been resolved... perhaps I will actually get to uncover my bucket and work on it soon and try... the thing is, pics make it better for everyone. Why not do what ever to make that easy and secure? Again, I'm not being critical or complaining, just stating the obvious. Most were ok with using photobucket, but now we're screwed, the site will suffer as a result of the loss, there is a lot of good info in the past posts that will potentially be lost, thus damaging the site and those who come here for info, etc... I'm not sure what the licensing agreement actually states, but it seems wrong for pb to hold us hostage for past free service that they now charge for. One would assume there would be an effective date, but that's why there are so many lawyers...

A lot of the guys on another Forum I'm on have downloaded all their photos from P/bucket back to their own hard drives till they organise another storage, most are choosing either IMGUR and GOOGLE for future posting to the Forum. That doesn't help for all the previously published pics, as they would have to go back through the various threads and redo the links, which for most won't happen. The problem with hosting pictures on the Forum is cost of storage, and you're still in trouble if the Forum goes tits up, everything will be lost. I don't really know what the answer is, haven't looked into it closely as I don't have photo's that accompany a build thread. Good luck to everyone that has pics on "StuffedBucket"
Mike.

I know I've mentioned this before, but in a different thread. This will only help
the person that follows thru with capturing the thread and making it a PDF file
out of it. Firefox and I suspect Chrome would also have an add-on that will do
the capturing. I have a 100 page thread on another forum for my engine build.
I would dearly hate to loose all that information and documentation that is only
in that thread.

You never know when all that info will be gone!

Only allows one page at a time to be captured, it seems. Unless there is one that will do a whole thread in one go???

A couple of years ago when I did some capturing, it would get all the tabs that were open. So I did 10 pages at one time. This last time it was like you say, one page at a time using Firefox, Chrome maybe different.
