HELP...T bucket wont start

Ok, Here is my problem:

Car gets spark to all cylinders... I checked distributer and coil and all is good.....

I checked compression to all cylinders and they all read at 110..

Gas to carbs.... Push gas and fues squirts into carb...

Fuel pump is electrical and opperates when the switch is in ACC or run...

When I turn over the engine it acts as though it wants to start. As long as I keep the ignition switched turned to START the engine will ruin and I can press the gass and get the engine to revv.

AS SOON AS I ALLOW THE IGNITION SWITCH TO RETURN TO THE .....RUN.... POSITION, THE ENGINE DIES.

I cant figure out why... any ideas?????

Sounds like the coil wire or HEI wire is on the wrong terminal of the ignition switch. Does the coil or HEI have power in the run position of the switch?.............ruggs
PS.....not good for the starter to be reving it with the bendix engaged

Sounds like what Ruggs said. With the engine off and key on see if you have power going to the coil or HEI. If this car has been running with no problems, you probably have a bad ignition switch. If it is a new build and you are trying to start it for the first time then it is wired wrong and you have the ignition wire on the start terminal instead of the run terminal.

THANK YOU!!!! cAR IS STARTED AND RUNNING. iT WAS NO POWER TO THE COIL... THANK YOU AGAIN....

John,
Is it possible that your timing is out by 180 degrees? I seem to remember having a similar problem and we had to pull
the distributor and re-install 180 degrees from where it was set up. Just a thought! Let me know if this helps!
