Hey GT63, what's the status of your EFI conversion?

Hey Grant, I'm getting real serious about converting my 2x Edel 1405s to TBI. I came across this set-up and it looks real promising, as it can be used on a draw-through blower set-up. I want to do TBI to try to preserve as much of the traditional look on my T as I can. What are you doing with yours?

BTW: I'm thinking real hard about coming down for the BBQ! 8-hour drive, though. Probably make it a 3-day deal... down on Friday, party-party-party, back on Sunday.

Hi Lee, I'll be working on it tomorrow, finishing it up. I had it in Colorado springs, never did get it out of the big red trailer. Had a bad fuel pressure regulator leak.

I'll get some pictures and write up a summary after I'm done working on it .

The ribbed bugcatcher looks cool. Gives it a Fuel Altered look.

I've got two more sensors to install and then I can attempt to start it. Then the tuning fun begins. I'm using an Accel DFI Gen 7 ECU which is VE based so I'll be able to control the fuel mixture even when it's in BOOST.

Okay, Here's a little teaser. I know its' dirty, I haven't cleaned it yet. This is what the EFI system looks like on the engine.

That is a really cool looking setup.

Is there any provision for an air cleaner with that setup? That looks so neat that way.

No air cleaner, just running a screened gasket between the bugcatcher and the injector plate. If you wanted to go more traditional, you could mount the carb plate on top of the injector plate and run two 4150 throttle bodies, but that will cost you about $1500 more than this set-up. It's not inexpensive to do this and there is a learning curve to the tuning, but in the end I should be able to control the A\F Ratio and the VE at all RPM ranges including when it's in boost.

It's hard to tell (all the chrome blinded me!), but are you putting any fuel in at the hat, or is it all at the port?

I admit to being pretty ignorant when it comes to street blowers and I was just wondering if you needed to stick any fuel in up top, to help cool the blower.

Mike, There is a plate between the bugcatcher and the blower that has 8 electronic fuel injectors in it. The plate is designed to conceal all the wiring to the injectors. It's made by a company called Autotrend EFI out in California.

That is a cool looking plate GT63. What kind of $$ did that plate set you back if you don't mind me asking? I checked the site but they have no prices.

The plate comes with the injectors and the harness. You could buy 9 Edelbrock 1405 carbs for what it cost for this plate. Like I said going EFI isn't cheap, but the tuning ability more than makes up for it.

There are less expensive EFI kits for non-blown engines. You just have to do your homework and find one that will work for you. There are a few good ECUs that are self tuning. FAST has a couple of nice units. You can get a good system for around $2000. A system like mine will cost you anywhere from $5K to $9K

I think the hardest part so far is making all the wiring and sensors on an exposed engine look good.

Ahhh, now I see the plate. I put on a pair of sunglasses, to keep the glare down and I can now see details. :winkn: That looks like a pretty slick design on the plate. I'll check out their link.

It's the only plate I could find that had a clean look to it. The BDS, Kinsler, and Hilborn kits all use rails.

You are so very right. My biggest nightmare is the wiring for the Kinsler. I have had a play with a few things to tidy it up and come up with a blank. Even thought of running it in SS hard lines. Would be great if it was all run through Bluetooth but the wiring sits there and taunts me day after day. Funny thing with the fuel rails is I like that look, kinda mean and purposeful.
The move to almost wireless set ups would make me think again if my build was being started today. Slick neat and clean.
