I don't know if I have a problem...

I don't know if I have a problem or if I'm just being anal. I just received a set of front shackle pivots, one of the pivots, the 5/8" bolt is centered on the 1" tubing and the other pivot, the 5/8" bolt is off center by an 1/8" IE: one side measures 1/2" from the edge of the tubing to the bolt's shank and the other side measures 5/8". I'm a carpenter by trade and when I build a house it's square by a 1/8" and I'm talking in over a 40' or 50' diagonal not in a 1 3/4" long tubing. So should I send it back?

Yes. In my opinion if something is that far off in that small length. Any good vendor (including ones that are forum sponsors) should realize the mistake and take care of it. Our shop like any other has issues from time to time. We know to take care of the problem quickly and you will retain more than that one customer. An unhappy customer has a lot of venues these days to express their displeasure...and you can lose a lot of customers as well as your reputation.

If we were talking 1/16", I wouldn't worry too much.

While not perfect, I think it would be ok. Probably if the truth were known, most of us are running around on ones just like it, we just never took the time to compare them. Maybe call the people you got them from and run it by them, but I bet the next set will not be any better.

I am not a fan of the ones that have a bolt welded to the tubing anyway, much prefer the forged ones. Don't like trusting my life to someone else's welding.

Don, I would prefer to weld it myself, but I wouldn't trust it (my welds) for such a critical part. Now where can you get forged ones with 5/8" stud? I was looking for 3/4" distance from the center of the tubing to to mounting surface.

The only forged shackle hangers I've seen were actually made for the adjustable spring perches and were a bit too long. I dont remember who made the forged steel ones, maybe Chassis Engineering, these were the pivots and have a 5/8" shaft. Although the ones pictured are actually investment cast stainless, they looked the same. Henry... you are wise not to build that part yourself, it is holding the whole front end up. ( we only have two people that we allow to weld this part...for the last 25 years )

Jerry, I have your chromed shackles and pivots. After the first mock up, I only needed 3/4" from center of shackle mount to batwing mounting surface to be able to start putting the spring in tension, your pivots are ~1". I was going to turn them down but I tried to get them custom made. Some people say I'm hard to please but yours are gorgeous and centered.

I'm running to leave for Billetproof and don't have time to dig out where I bought mine, but it was either Pete and Jakes or SoCal. They have the angled ones with 5/8 studs on them, and they are one piece forged. When I get back Sunday I will find out for sure for you, if no one has posted in the mean time.

Try this for an idea about reducing the worry about the spring hangers breaking.

A better idea would be to redesign the whole thing. Increase the radius on the stud to eliminate the stress riser and add length to the bearing portion. The shoulder on the stud would work with a heavy washer to lock everything down but allow some angular rotation of the hanger.

I have been using the ones from Speedway for a lot of years. No problems so far.

I had one of the welded ones from speedway break a few years ago, the bolt sheared at the threads, wasn't a weld failure. gab's idea about adding to the batwing & spreading the load looks like a good idea!!

I'm running a stock straight axle with bolt on batwings that I will probably replace. On one of the batwings, the flanges that bolt to the spring perches are not parallel with each other and I had to hammer it on. I want to get it to be a roller first and adjust spring/radius rod heights, axle angle etc. (I have to figure out how to post pics, be patient) I was thinking of using parts from "Welder Series" http://www.welderseries.com/blog/online-store/batwing-boss/
