Ha!

How many here were experienced, meaning you had seen Hendrix play live? I saw the Experience in Indianapolis, on Mother's Day 1969. If I remember, the ticket was like $13. A wee band, still calling itself Chicago Transit Authority opened the night, with Hendrix being the main.

Did not see Hendrix live, but remember him very well. I did see CTA live in concert. IMO there is no one that can top Hendrix! Stevie Ray Vaughn is good, but he is not Hendrix.

Here is some Hendrix on You Tube. Hendrix

Seen him LIVE in the UK when I was too young to drink and too young to be in the venue. NO ONE can better this guy on a guitar. Its all in the thumbs you know. Any Hendrix fan will know what this means. If I had to take one album with me in my coffin it would be Jimmy's.
Next to a T there aint nothin better

I saw Hendrix in 1969 as well, in Phoenix (I was attending Arizona State University at the time). Opening bands were Spirit and Santana. That was the first time I ever smelled marijuana (I was pretty naive in those days).

And of course you DIDN'T inhale did you?

Hell no! I was even afraid of inhaling regular cigarette smoke! It was later that year that I became a police officer. I was put on the drug squad because I was one of the few recruits that had ever smelled wacky-tobacky! I finally confiscated enough that we could light some up for the older officers so they could recognize it. Soon we made a big bust at a local hotel when a street cop was driving by and recognized the smell. This was in Scottsdale... we were extremely naive in those days.

I'm not experienced. That is, I've not seen him in concert. I rate him as one of the greatest guitar players ever.

I strung one of guitars left handed to give it a try. Yes Paris, i know he played his left handed on a right handed guitar.
Did I mention i have four guitars..... one for each of the four notes I can play and my favorite chord is the six open.

The same thing happened when I bought my air brush as happened when I bought my guitars, I forgot to buy the talent.

But did you know he was actually right-handed?

His sound was certainly unique. He used some very light coils in his pickups and light strings, as well. He generally tuned down a half-step (Eb-Ab-Db-Gb_Bb-Eb), too.

One of the funnier things I have ever seen happened at the Isle of Wight Festival, on 31 August 1970. He got pissed at the audience and rolled into Foxey Lady. He was pulling all the old stage stunts, playing between his legs, behind his back, etc. and at one point he dropped down in a squat. He got a funny look on his face and you could see him reaching down to his crotch. He gave Billy Cox a puzzed look and walked back to where Eric Barrett was standing. He kept playing as he spoke into Barrett's ear and then lifted his guitar up, so Barrett could take a peek. He finally nodded at Mitchell and Cox to keep playing and stepped in behind his stack. A couple minutes later, he walked back out front, shot Cox an impish grin and exhaled deeply. He thought he had blown the crotch out of his pants.

It was amazing that he had no musical training and really didn't have a very good ear. He spent a lot of time, calling across stage to either Redding or Cox, "Gimme an A, I need an A." But he sure had an amazing playing technique, no questioning that. He could probably play 4th rhythm guitar with any band.

Just a by the way.
Old T was called Foxy lady and had a girls head air brushed on the doors.
