To keep all of this in perspective, whilst there are those, such as myself, who are grateful to those who have served in our armed forces, Memorial Day is a day set aside to memorialize those who made the supreme sacrifice during service. So do not think people do not remember and appreciate your service.
As for flying our nation's flag, I agree it is a dying tradition. Many people have already forgotten how to demonstrate respect to our flag. I suspect if you were to ask 100 people how a flag should be displayed, fewer than 10 of them would get the answers right. You see, personal and civic pride are also dying traditions. And the death of civic pride is not necessarily something you can blame on uncaring citizens. This country's leaders have plainly forgotten that respect is earned.

Just thinking out loud...when I was in grade & high school , we got up , put our hands over our hearts & recited the pledge every morning to the flag hanging on the wall...nowaday they don't even want a flag in school ,& reciting the pledge ? well , that might offend someone...Mike's right about our "leaders" & I use the term loosley , who are more concerned w/lining there pockets & apologizing for what used to be American pride than being patriotic !! O.K. now my fingers tired !!
