Just had to stop by and say how much I enjoy this site ,, with a guy like me just starting out this has been great ,, the smarts most on here has and the openess you have to share it with othrs is so nice .
Im looking foward to chatting with more of you as I get farther along ,
Right now IM still trying to fig out if Im going to stay with the jag rearend you just about have me talked into changing again thanks to all that has helped and to those who are willing to.. Ed

Hey, who's talking you out of the Jag?!?! I have one and I love it. A little more work to install than a straight axle, but certainly doable. What is it that's scaring you away?

No sir, I don't. I wouldn't think it would be a huge difference, hub to hub. Virtually all of the same components in each. Biggest difference I would guess would be the weight of the lower control arms of the Jag versus the weight of the axle tubes on the Ford (Jag being slightly heavier, I'm guessing). The standard Jag set-up uses four coil-overs versus two on the Ford, so there's a little more weight (you can do a Jag with just two coil-overs, however).

My T weighs 1930 lbs. with a full tank and nobody in it. Weight distribution is 55/45. I think that's all pretty close to an average straight-axle T.

Don't give up on the Jag yet. You have a great advantage of having the experience for those one here that have them in their cars. Just like learning how to ride a bike. Just think you can be one to help someone else "thnking" about using one one day. Great bragging rights too, huh Lee.

Ron

Hey dude, You want a Jag rear, go with a Jag rear! Its your ride, Do it! As I've said, I set them up on occassions, they're not bad, Personally, I love the look of them....and I actually like the ride. However, I'm into the Big Honkin' Solid rear look....

They aren't hard to setup, but you gotta pay attention and do it right! Just look at Lee's rear, its a work of art, and you see Exactly how to ste it up by looking at it. Pumpin centered and leveled, pivot arms Centered, leveled. And the swing arms....the same. Its cool!

Weight is within 45 lbs. of each other....what the 9 in Has is bulk in the ring and pinion, the carrier and the axles. The Jag has more components, 4 shocks, pivot tubes which are hollow, and the 1/2 shafts. Drums vs the disc's, theres not much to worry about if your thinking about sprung weight....go with what you want and what makes you happy!

Hey, Mine has a blown 392 Hemi, a turbo 400 adapted to it with a ford 9 in. out back. Centerlines with Hoosiers (sprint car tires) out back. I've got over 600 horses....I don't need that much....nor can I use all of it. I build those motors for my living....I had some of the parts, got a good deal on the rest, you get a decent suspension and a little bit of motor in one of these....it can get scarey....I'm not a race car driver, I'm a builder. Driving 200-300+ mph in the 1/4 scares the bejesus outta me...can't do it, won't do it. BUT, nothing stops me from hoppng in a car if I can get comfortable in it, and pulling the pin and shutting it down after about 200-300 ft! That way, I can feel exactly whats happening....
I just wanted something outrageous, something that I could just plane boil the tires off it if I wanted to....Go from 0-60 in just a few seconds!

Hey dude, want the jag rear, do the jag rear, we'll help ya out with the info! Look at Lee's ride! Its a work of Art!

Lee, we need to see about setting up a new article in the Library with those pictures. Very clean work, sir! :)
Thanks for the compliment, Mike, but most of the credit goes to George Barnes (GAB on this board). I only bolted it together. I don't have a lot to do here at work right now, so I would love to prepare an article for you. I know most of what George did and everything I did to make the conversion (I originally had a straight axle). I've also got quite a few more pix. You up for it?

Oh Yeah ... now we're talkin!!!!

Ron

Lee, did you notice it took Youngster all of eleven minutes to reply to you? :)

Yes, I'm certainly up for it. I've been wanting to run through the system with someone, primarily to make sure all the permission settings work properly. And you certainly have some excellent subject matter for an article. Let her happen, Captain!

Hay Lee and others ,, You have been such a great help I was to the point of using the jag rear end for my boat anchor, But Lee with what all you have supplied me with ,, the Jag is my choice of rear ends .

One more thing Lee and others .. On the diff on the jag its off set , as long as the rear-end is even with the tranny as in up and down is it ok to have the offset from side to side.? if so how much ? IM about 1 1/2 inc,s off side to side ,, but level up and down , if this makes sense .

As id said before , some things I as may sound dump but ask any way .
with help from people like lee I dont think I can go wrong , and the pics you gave was so much to the point with out confusion Id have to omit Iv gone back and look 50 times just to set myself at ease I may have to ask more in hopes you all dont mind . we have a big swap meet this weekend and im looking forward to going to it .

Lee you make it easy to ask to were some make fun of things wome ask . hay some had to start some were , and to me asking is a must ,, saves money and time.

I came down with cancer and iv beat it and since Im off of working a reg job now , this keeps my mind busy and keeps me from loosing it , again thanks guys and god bless, ED

On the diff on the jag its off set , as long as the rear-end is even with the tranny as in up and down is it ok to have the offset from side to side.? if so how much ?
As long as the axis of the pinion shaft and the axis of the tranny output shaft are parallel you will be good to go. No problem with the offset as long as the diff is mounted square to the frame, assuming the engine/tranny are also mounted square to the frame.

Take your time. Life always comes first, so no problem if it takes a while to get it ready. That being said, will somebody toss a bucket of ice-water on Youngster? Ron, I shouldn't tease you about your enthusiasm. I get pretty excited at times, myself.

If it hasn't been mentioned, one thing that makes the Jag attractive to me is the reduction in unsprung weight compared to the nine inch or other rears of that design.

Reducing the unsprung weight will provide better ride quality which should be more noticeable in these light cars.
