Picture sizing for the forum with windows 7

Hi
Anyone using Windows 7 out there I have discovered a way to resize pics from my digital camera without using Photoshop or other SW packages.
Once you have the pics loaded in to a folder on your PC if you double click on the first one it will normally bring it up in pics viewer. Unless you have set a different default program for this)
Now on the bottom LH corner of the screen you can click on Desktop which opens up your desktop. Need to mention here that I have put a shortcut on my desktop for the SNIPPING TOOL that comes with Win 7.
Now just open up the snipping tool and snip the picture (or part of it you want) and save it to a folder. I use a folder called T Pics for Forum
The snipping tool automatically downsizes the pics to 800 wide which seems to be perfect for the forum.

Mike can probably rewrite this in a much better way but it saves me opening up ;photoshop and going through loads of steps to do the same thing

I was not aware of the Win 7 trick. This box has 7 on it, but when it arrived, I registered 7 and then installed Ubuntu Lucid Lynx on it as a dual-boot. In the two months I've owned this box it has been running non-stop, but it has less than 2 hours of Windows 7 time on it. :) I love Ubuntu Linux!

I always recommend IrfanView to Windows users. It is lightweight and has a lot of capabilities.

In Linux, I use a lot of image editing programs, but Gimp and Mirage are the ones I use most. Gimp can do virtually anything Photoshop can do and Gimp opens in 3-4 seconds. Gimp is available for Windows, but it is pretty slow. It still works great, when you cannot afford Photoshop though.

Another thing with the snipping tool is that like all Win programs once you have a desktop shortcut you can drag it to the menu bar at the bottom of the screen. This means you can bypass going to the desktop by using the button in the bottom RH corner. If you see what I mean.
Open up your pic, cursor to the menu bar and open Snipping tool. Snip pic and save as
