These are pics for Mike J. I'll let him tell about what he is doing.

Looks good. Think about moving the z back behind the firewall. You can have the toeboard and look like a channeled car too!

Starting out with a wood mock-up, it's easier to make a mistake with wood over steel. As old round fart stated maybe move Z back behind firewall. Can't picture it that way yet.

I'll think about this weekend as I will be cutting the steel. I assume the toeboard is an angled floor from firewall to floor?

In the weeds she will be.
I take it by the looks it will eventually be channeled over the frame

No, no channeling. I don't want to lose any interior space. I got the idea from a rat rod that I had seen.

What I call the toe board is the angled floor just behind the firewall. The center will need to be angled to clear the trans ,so just go all the way across. more comfortable for the feet anyway.

Thats what I figured, kinda like the floor in a passenger car. I thought about something like that so the wife has something to brace herself against. Just sayin:eek:

How much interior space is going to be eat'en up by the transmission?
I don't know yet, that's what makes building from scratch interesting. Built racecars that way and they always seemed to come together somehow. Good ideas are always welcome though, I don't want to make any major mistakes.

Think of it as not how much the trans will take up. It won't be any different than a channeled car, you just raised the sides of the car the width of the frame.

I have built about 20 frames over the last 45 years and at least half of them were T-bucket style frames. Based on that experience, this is purely an opinion (and we all know opinions are like... uhh... bellybuttons) and it is based solely on appearance: I would put the Z behind the firewall and I would also extend the kickup to raise the rear frame section up inside the bed. The part of the frame directly under the floor is rarely seen except at some distance from the side and therefore not obtrusive, but the front (of course) and the rear are visible from several angles. If you leave the Z and especially the rear frame section exposed, it will look like a mistake. The body will always look like you forgot to channel it. I have attached a picture of my '31 A coupe - it looks like it is channeled halfway over a Deuce frame, but it isn't. It is actually sitting on top of the frame; the front Z-notch is behind the firewall and the rear of the frame is inside the body. The part of the frame you see below the door is all there is. I, too, wanted to keep all the interior height.

That's my two-cents-worth. Have fun with the build!:D

I got this frame configuration from nehrspeedcraft.com take a look, they look pretty good to me. I'm going to call it a T- RAT.:) Thanks for the thought, I like this look though. " Ideas are like butts, some look better than others "!

I've looked at their stuff and I don't care for their frame configuration. Speedway's Tribute-T sits just as low, but looks better because it doesn't have that goofy looking huge Z in the frame beside the engine. Also, I haven't looked recently, but they used to be ridiculously overpriced.:cautious: Yours will look OK if you keep the Z small like you have it in your wood mock-up. It doesn't matter what I like, anyway; this is YOUR car and you only have to please you.:D
