Just wondering what a T bucket kit might run with everything but engine, tranny, paint, wheels, tires and gauges. No frills kit then make another guess including those items omitted. :wall:

I built a Total Performance kit. RPM is right, about $4,000 to start and then its up to you what happens after that. I never added up all my receipts, kinda like my bald spot, if you don't see it, is it really there? I would have to guess the total cost was somewhere between 12k to 15k. Once I had my chassis & body kit, I sat down & came up with a design for how I wanted my car to look. Then I made an excel spreadsheet, with all the parts & their prices, that I would need. I sorted the spreadsheet by price & whenever I had money to spend on the car, I purchased what I could & crossed it off. And that's how someone who suffers from "detail analism" does it.

Spike, that's basically how I'm doing it. I have a very limited budget these days, so I've broken my build down by prices. As I get funds, I buy whatever is within budget. I basically chose RPM for my vendor. That way I'm sure that all the parts will go together, besides it's nice he is semi-local to me. So far, so good! Have to give my Wife and Ron a big Thanks for helping to get me the spindles after I had already spent my Budget last month. Working on putting together the money for the rear suspension parts... Buts it's going to be a bit tighter with Christmas coming...

madmike8,

I always used Christmas & my birthday to ask for either parts or money to put toward parts. Another good purchase opportunity was at income tax return time. My wife & I were raising two kids at the time & the money for the T bucket came last. It took some time to get it all together, but was well worth it as now I am having a blast driving this car.

Check Spirit Cars. 23T Super Kit is $8,600. They provide excellent customer service as attested to by many members here. Give Josh a call and he will tell you all you want to know. If you don't want the complete kit, he will give you a price for the items you do want. Check with RPM too. He might put a kit together for you at a reasonable price. I've bought from both and have no problems at all. RPM will also make custom parts from your drawings if you want something unique.

Sounds like I can spend 15,000 on a used T bucket and skip the build process or spend 15,000 and do the kit build process myself, my way (327 327 327).

I have just a hair under 13k in mine. This includes everything to include all the little things that add up really quick. It also includes shipping/duty and taxes that I had to pay which over all accounts for about 11%, but mine has not been painted yet either.

I am sure if (when) I do it again I will be able to do it for less.

Biggest thing I can recommend is sit down and make a list. Then post it here so we can let you know what you forgot :) Then check the list again and start shopping.

That is some very smart thinking right there. Buying is always the best way to save money.

You can build a T Bucket for a whole, whole lot less than $15k.

Or you can build one for a lot more then $15k.

I believe the one factor that effects the price of a build is experience. Each one gets cheaper. That's where a forum like this one becomes so so valuable. You get to use every posters experience to help keep the cost down.

I already had a body, but fabricating everything I possibly could , raiding friend's scrap piles, having a machinist friend , swap meets, watching for deals, doing my own paint ,interior, & engine , I came in at under 5K , took about 5 yrs.

That is where you save your money. If you have time to wait out a good deal, have friends in the right places you can save a ton of money.

I have to wade in here, I haven't added up everything but I am sure it would come in under $6000. I look for things on sale, used parts in good shape, I have a lathe so that helps and I do my own welding. Using the information that the guys on the forum can give will save you a lot of money. And the fancier you want it the more it will cost.

Just looked at my spread sheet and I have just under $11,500 in mine. On the road and going to car shows. My initial purchase was a rolling frame and body with 3 boxes of various parts it cost $3,000.00 I am an electronic specialist (burglar alarm owner) I don't know anything about mechanical items. It took me and 5 or 6 of my buddies meeting once a week for about 3 years and I finally got it finished. Fortunatley my buddies who all have their own cars would sit back and tell me what to do and then make me do it. So I did get to learn how to build a car one of the worlds best experiences. 2nd best experience is driving it into a car show for the first I know I had a grin from ear to ear. So don't be afraid ask any body on here anything these people are full of............knowledge and trust me you will get lots of good advice.

I bought my car complete from a school for about 50 cents on the dollar but my motor was over $8k. I am not trying to start anything but there is too ways to build a bucket. Dig up a bunch of used stuff and build one for as cheap as possible or buy all new parts and spend $20-30k.

20 - 30 k for all new parts? I suppose if everything is chrome including the keys and if every ounce of work has been farmed out. If you're looking to do a budget build shy away from the chrome as you can always have those items chromed later. There are plenty of venders out there including sponsors of this site that make and sell new parts at a reasonable price. With all these sponsors and venders out there, it gives you the opportunity to shop around and compare prices. You can buy all the steel you need and make the parts yourself using Youngster's free plans if you have the tools, time and skills to make them. You can also make your own frame the same way. Here are some turn key prices that you'll never have to turn a wrench on prior to starting. If you look around the web, I'm sure you'll be able to find more.

A friend of mine built one here about 6-7 years ago, I'll bet he has close to $50,000 in it. Heidt's polished stainless rear end complete. Cost about $6,000, complete polish stainless front end over $2,000. It just goes on and on.
