changing your tire size effectively changes the overall gear ratio of a vehicles axle.

Well, perhaps it's just a wording thing... your gear ratio does not change, but does impact engine RPM at speed that's for sure...

I calculate a 19.44% reduction in Engine RPM.

Thought it was interesting got that out of the back of a Reider Gear catalog.Yours makes more sense.

I guess their point is the engine RPM reduction is equivalent of changing the rear end gears... as you can see, the the engine RPM with the 29 inch tires with 3.08 gears is within 2 RPM at 60 MPH as a car with 3.82 gears and 36 inch tires...
