I trust I'm not in violation of forum rules for plugging a company I found that supplies sanding belts.

I have a 6" x 48" belt sander and a 6" x 1.5" expander wheel.

For the 6x48 I used to buy Norton Belts from Grainger, a tad spendy.

Then I bought belts from Harbor Fright which are considerable cheaper. The might be better for wood than metal, but they work on metal after you get over the bump at the joining point and the smell of horse hooves. When I use up the HF belts I'll order from econaway in Michican

For the expander wheel, I recently bought belts at a good price and good service.

You can get an instant quote at their site.

I get all mine from a well know auction site. Never had a problem with any of them, Those little 3'' disks with the screw mount are a fraction of the cost.

Sears has been my best source here for belts.

I have the same size sander and have used several hb belts but they don't hold up real well. Ron how do the sears belts hold up?

I order on-line from here: http://www.lehighvalleyabrasives.com/servlet/the-Flap-Discs-cln-Zirconia-Flat/Categories

and would never go anywhere else. their excellent prices are certainly a plus, but the quality of the products is also 2nd to none that I've tried (and I've tried a lot) . great service, very fast shipping, excellent online ordering,. I mostly order their 4 1/2" Zirconia flap disks as well as the Zirconia Roloc disks (the one with "the little twist thing on the back"), but I'll bet if you compare their belts they would be just as good as the disks.
ya... I like their products

they don't last half as long as the Norton's do but I can buy 3 of them for the price of 1.

As much as I use the belt sander (ain't much) Enco is fine. Have bought quite a few stuff from Enco. And most of the stuff comes in about three different grades (Norton, cheaper USA, or China). Enco is fine for a home shop.

Here is a place that I use for grinding belts, 1 1/2" x 60" belts, I tried the cheap, standard type (ALUMINUM OXIDE), they go away way too fast, not worth buying at all, the good brand (PREMIUM ZIRCONIA BELTS) lasts more than 4 to 5 times longer, so they are MORE THAN well worth the extra money.. IMHO :)
