Shifter interchange 200r4 vs. 700r4

I have settled on a cable operated shifter in the T. As a look around for one, i can't seem to find any information on whether the shifters are specific to the transmission.

It seems that any cable operated shifter would work, as long as the shifter is for an O/D tranny and the tranny is O/D. Might have to adjust the selector arm length on the tranny, if anything.

I am using a 200R4 and 1982-92 f-body shifter seem easy enough to find. But how much modification would it take, if any, to make a shifter from a 700 work on the 200r4.

I have gone through that with my Elcamino the shifter from the 200r4 will work with the 700r4 and Viseversa. Sorry not good with my spelling so bare with me . The only difference is the bracket on the trans that the cable snaps into. the bracket will work from a Buick, Pontiac, Montecarlo,Elcamino,Malibue,Camaro,Oldsmobile of 79-89. So there are plenty cars to look at at the bone yard. just get the bracket off wich ever trans you will use.
