steering box

I have a problem, my reversed corvair box moves easily when I pull forward on the arm(left turn)but when I push back on it it"s crabby and hard to push. Is the problem in the bearings, or is there some other problem? Appreciate any help on this.

How does the box work when you turn it with where the steering column fastens on? It should be hard to turn with a tight spot in the middle.

I don't have the column mounted yet, I will do that today. I need to tow this car to the transmission shop and my main concern is will the steering return coming out of a turn.I will mount the column and let you know what happens.

I hooked everything together and jacked the front tires off of the floor and am able to move the steering forward and backward through it's entire range without any problem. That solved my problem( that I thought I had) Thanks for your response.
