We lost another track(KCIR) :(

That is only about 10 miles from me. Kansas city is going to put a park there,and put a lot of people out of work. They said the neighbours were complaining about the noise. When it went in there it was out in the country, with no neighbours. I remember when it went in there, it was close to the river before that. I spent a lot at the old dragstrip back in the 50's

Heartland is still there, and Gateway is coming back next season. I havent lived in the KC area since college, but if I remember correctly there is a 1/8th still open that way.
 
"That sucks" is about the most polite way I can say what I'm thinking right now.
 
It's a shame to hear about another track going away. In this day and age, it's pretty difficult to get zoning committees to take favorable opinions of building new drag strips. I heard Tulsa Raceway Park was under a dark cloud, but it sounds as if someone has stepped up to lease the track for 2012, so maybe they can salvage that one.

My former employer owned a 3/8 mile dirt track for the last 5-6 years I was there. And after watching that zoo taking place each season, it gave me a whole new level of respect for track operators. It's not a job I would ever want to tackle.

Some drag race news on a happier note - If you're going to drive from Central Indiana to Pomona for the World Finals, you may as well leave a few days early and stop off at the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series points meet in Las Vegas, right? And since you've driven all that way, you may as well start the weekend off in an upbeat manner, right?

How much money is being brought into the community with the track. These quiet area people take over and bring in no money.Nuff for now
 
Memphis Motorsports Park is now back in business. New owner seems to be having a really go go at it right now.

A few years ago there were complaints about the noise from people that moved into the area, built big houses, etc. Um, that place has been there for quite a while folks, if you didn't research the area when you were planning to build your dream home it ain't the dragstrip's fault.

My father lived a frog's hop from the end of the dragstrip and we'd regularly go check out who was doing testing at the paved oval.

I don't know how man times I got to see a car or two out there setting up cars for Nascar and the old Busch series.

The dragstrip was regularly used and a favorite of Hot Rod Pump Gas Drags and other little events.

Happy to see that placer back going after being closed for a few years.
