An idea that never happensd...

In the process of building my roadster, my older son, Chuck, made a Photoshop proposal for a "rat rod" type of pickup using the molds from my body. All we'd have to do would be to substitute a pickup box in place of the turtle deck that I chose. My younger son, Rob, really liked the idea and wanted it us to build it but then he got "hooked" on Harleys and that was the end of that.

Here is that proposal:

Damn Cool! She Done Yet?

It looks like that one of RPM's stretched bucket bodies could be used and perhaps a a little longer bed. Along with Jag IRS and a hood w/no sides. CCR has a set up like it in their intro page w/Model A radiator shell. With that body you could have a nice looking top also.
O.K. Ron, how much for a roller?
Speaking of cars never seen again, what about that lowrider that Spirit was putting together. What happened to it?

I love the design, though the rat rod patina/rust theme is a little played out in my mind. I would like it with gloss black with a red interior...but I'm biased...

Looks like a good opportunity for someone to start making bobbed truck beds to fit their bodies! Wonder if Ron Pope has finished hat mold yet?

EX JUNK...What size tires are those?

What do ya think is the length of that bed? 36" or 40"???
I'm trying to judge it by comparing it to the wheel and garage door panels, it looks longer than 36, but hard to say for sure. I bet you could measure it and the engine and get real close. A sbc is 24-25" long from the bell housing to to the end of the balancer, depending on which balancer it has (from memory).

Sorry for taking so long to answer but things have been a little hectic around here. As best that my son and I can remember of that sketch (it's been over ten years ago) is that the front wheels are 16x4.5 with 550R 16 tires and the rears were 16x7 or 7.5 with 750R 16 tires.

That bed was to be 32" and we were planning on building it ourselves as we had made the body ourselves anyhow.

Do you still have the body? Was it steel or fiberglass?

The body is the one that is my car and, yes, I still have it. However, once the car was done we got rid of all the molds except the turtle deck one in case I got rear ended. Anybody that knows me knows that I don't keep a lot of stuff around. Call it being a neat freak or OCD or whatever, it's just the way I am. You can compare the profile shot of my car to the photoshopped version and you'll see that the pickup box is as long as the turtle deck which is measured from the top mounting point on the body to the tail which is 32".

That there is one of the finest, cleanest roadsters ever built.

It's perfect.
