Project Blue Bird

I had a 30° slant windshield and it got in the way of my wife entering thru the door. I had it
modified to 15° and it was much better. The height is 16 inches.

Just some food for thought !
 
I wish they come out with a 10*- 15* W/S post, I think I'm going to sand the body a little and lead the stock ones back, at least 5* to counter the rake angle of the body.

I knew a very old machinist at the time and he cut my SS stanchions and welded them back
together to make them 15°. Sure wish he was still available, he did all the machine works on
my 200-4R trans that eliminated all the thrust washers. Plus a bunch of other mods ! I miss
Buddy, we could talk about the trans mods for an hour he enjoyed it so much, but he never
charged me for our discussions. When he retired I bought all the 200-4R parts he had left
over from his transmission repair shop. Some were NOS from the 80's.

Honestly I didn't expect the slant to be so much when I bought them,,once installed on the car I was kinda worried about it being too much. But after I was able to roll it out in the driveway and get a good look at it with the frame set in, I thought it was perfect. This is an extended from spirit,,that may be why its not really any hinderance getting in and out.

Yes, that's got to help with getting into the car thru the door. I would agree that a 30° slant
would look better than 15°, just didn't work for me.

Good looking ride, True! Love the stance. You might want to consider adding gussets between the rear hairpins. Torque from that V-8 will put a lot of stress on them, especially with sticky rear tires.

yessir...actually going to do something similar to this, but the speed holes without the ovals. I think I need to double shear the axle mounts as well.
 
My windshield posts are also original that's been cut shorter. My posts have a very slight angle in their original form.

Long story short, my car sat at a guys shop for 2 months and when I finally told him I wa done, and coming to get it, he says hell have it ready. Get there, not ready. So we took the car,,,haven't gotten a call back yet,,been 2 weeks now. Anywho!! I ordered the pipes from Hells Gate hot rods last week, so my old car buddy that just moved back to Ky. from Tx. is a welder by trade, so were good there now.
We've disassembled the body and frame, and working on the final welding, and finishing before primer. Also added the driveshaft loop, and changed out the tranny crossmember to a drop down type. Hope to have the frame in primer in the next couple weeks along with the suspension. Fingers crossed.
 
We had a spring clearance issue in the rear, as some may have seen my other posts about lol. The top of the kickup was curved into the top section/model a crossmember area. We've still got some shaping to do here still but you can see its more of a sharp angle at the kickup. Frame was built by spirit. But I think we had some miscommunication as to what spring I was using, but other than that, the work is awesome. IMG_ED7B2A73CF98-1.jpeg
 
I'm going to have the same problem with my rear model A eliptical spring mount. I haven't gotten around to that area of my car yet. I have a game plan for modifying that area. Right now i'm concentrating on my doors.
 
Probably a good thing you got your car back. I have had a couple of bad experiences with painters who took something and then kept putting me off. (I could have gone to jail in one instance when I was younger.) It will work out for the best.
 
A lot of us have experience with shops like that. Back in the 70's I bought a project from a fellow who had lost interest in it. The car was at a shop, in pieces, and had been sitting like that for over a year. I thought I would have to hire an armed guard to retrieve it, but just endured a lot of cussing and swearing and threats. Put it back together, finished it, painted it, sold it. Whew!
