    Brake master cylinder bore

Check the math. Area of MC bore X Stroke is volume (PI*R^2*stroke) Then that volume /Area of Caliper piston/2(2 calipers) = caliper piston movement I don't think you going to get enough piston movement to get good brakes. Maybe just me.

    Steering Box Lubricant

I have had "0" or "00" grease recommended. "00" is considered semi-fluid and will flow well into the balls and be carried to the top of the worm better than thicker greases. When warm/hot it will thin even further. Thicker greases tend to simply get pushed aside and a hole is created that the...

    SHIFTER

I used a cable shifter out of a mid 80's camaro. The cable shifter allows you to mount the shifter where it works best for you and your car. I like the tall shifters too, so i extended it and found a new flex cable to run the length of the Swan's neck. Now i push down on the shifter ball (in...

    Windshield frame ideas

I have been thinking of doing something along those lines. Could you elaborate on how you used the wood to keep the aluminum bar from rotating on the table saw. Do you mean that a piece of 2X4 at each end of the bar, or 1 2X4 along the length of the bar.

    Mustang front end

My preference would be to polish them.

    Mustang front end

    The taller the better! IMO

    Steering Box Location

I might try that, it wouldn't be that hard and it's close, so it's worth exploration.

    Steering Box Location

Is that to say you raised the engine and left the transmission mount alone. Just adding a slight angle to engine/transmission?

    Steering Box Location

I could get a long shaft and make it work alignment wise, but i don't relish the idea of a 5/8" diameter shaft and finding an adapter to intall my quick release steering wheel. I might go the raising the motor route. Even if i fit the box in the CCR plan location, it will be TIGHT! Might as...

    Steering Box Location

Does anyone make a straight coupler with the appropriate splines on one end and a 3/4" double d on the other? I am considering the idea of having the univeral partially inside the firewall. Just want to make sure i can fit a firewall shaft support bearing on the inside for column support.

    Steering Box Location

Ok Guys, After extending the Bucket and frame, it was time to set the steering column and box back on top the frame rail. The stupid thing won't fit between the header pipe and the firewall and leave room for the univeral. It's a Unisteer and about 4" long. I am currently running a 4"...

    Vacuum Advance Explained

I think that article is by Lars Grimsrud. Do a search for articles by him and you'll find a world of good tech info includeing: Timing Quadrajet vacuum advace and more. He was a GM engineer at the Corvette plant i think.

    Master Cylinder bore size question

Yep, you got it. Shoulda done the math before i bought it. Live and learn

    Master Cylinder bore size question

Beware, too small a Master cylinder can be done. I did it, started with a 3/4" bore and couldn't generate enough line pressure with early GM calipers. Did the math and discovered i was only moving the caliper pistons about 0.03". Not enough, upgraded to 7/8" MC and problem solved. 0.05"...

    Mini van seat

I too used the middle seat out of a chrysler mini van. Cut 3 inches outta the middle and welded it back. a 2x4 laid down in the back and one on edge in the front gave me the best "Tilt" to the seat for confort.

    Residual Pressure Valves

I don't think the "Drain back" is an actual draining fluid from the calipers or wheel cylinders. It is gravity pulling down on the fluid and causing the caliper piston/wheel cylinder piston to retract some distance further than it would normally if the MC were above the brakes. 1 vertical foot...

aftermarket knock sensors: what do you know?

There are litterally dozens of articles one DIY Knock Sensors. http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_0348/article.html This is a nice article a quick google search netted me.

Idle timing, the hunt for the holy grail

I run that a good deal of timing at idle in a 383 storker motor, of course, with the vacuum advace hooked up to manifold vacuum. the 8-12 degrees is WITHOUT the vacuum can. The vacuum can pulls in close to 20 for my set up making the idle setting about 32 degrees. As soon as the butterflies...

    Soft Brake Pedal

UPDATE: My pressure gauge confirmed my thoughts about volume...Plenty of pressure in the front brake system if you cap off the hoses going to the calipers, just not enought volume to take up the slack between the pad and rotors. I got a master cylinder for a '74 nova with a 1" bore and...
