Reversing a steering box, in this case from an HQ holden but others would be similar

I have a question regarding the bearing on the end of the input shaft. This bearing runs in a machined race in the cap. So, when you swap the input shaft assembly 180 degrees in the housing , where does this bearing seat on the seal end?

Got back to work on the project after about a month.Winter's coming. One thing I know, Keepers way faster than me (looks good).Probably a Leaf's fan though L.O.L. I will try to figure out how to make the pics smaller(what's a Kb?) so I can post a few more.Later, Jeff.

The Perils of Budget Hot Rodding

Thanks, Guys. I have a friend who gets a serious discount at the big box autoparts joint out here on the left coast, and I put him on the case (went with the '75 Monte rotors and some of those magical metric calipers as well)I get treated like a leaper at a kissing booth.L.O.L. Hey, i'll just...

The Perils of Budget Hot Rodding

Hey Keeper, The caliper brackets I have are the Speedway cast ones with the offset. It was my fault to assume the '78 rotors would work (10 1/2" dia.) I have the bearing adapters pressed onto the '40 ford spindles, and the supplied inner races, bearings, and seals fit in my '78 rotors perfectly...

The Perils of Budget Hot Rodding

So, I bought Chet's e-book and read most of it and it's pretty good. You can see where I'm at in the project section and I think things are going pretty good. I went out and bought a '78 Cutlass donor car with a decent 305 /turbo 350. I got a "basic" '78-up GM "caliper"and 11" rotors to early...

    Project

Ron, You layed it out for me. Your plans got the ball rolling.I got the concept, I did the research,I executed the plan. This site is an excellent resource for first time builders. I may have been in the metal trade for over 20 years but ,I have never built a car. I've built Breweries, Bicycles...

    Project

So here it is. You guys answered my questions and were very helpful to get things to this point. It's not a T-Bucket? Look at the Full tube cage body and you will see Model T. I used dimensions from various body manufactuers ('23 mostly) It's just a really tall bucket. You load in from the back...

    Off Center Rear End

I am using a rear end out of a '91 S-10 pickup for my project. The center of the pinion/yoke is 1 1/8" to the passenger side. Is it best to center the yoke and allow the wheels to be offset 1 1/8" to the right side of the car to ensure there is no drive shaft vibrations? I suppose I could use a...

    Conventional Coil Spring Rear Suspension

You're right. I guess it's one of the components you spend the money on. What are the most popular ones to get ,and who has the best deal? I need some asap. The frame is built. Thanks, Jeff.

    Steering Box

True enough. i just saw it online and thought someone might be interested. I'm always looking for less costly alternatives.I am using '40 Ford front suspension on my car (including steering box). Thanks, Jeff.

    Conventional Coil Spring Rear Suspension

Are any of you guys running a coil spring / shock rear suspension? I see in the Speedway catalog a set of 4 3/8" o.d.x 14" @ 175 lb. spring rate coils for $69.99 pr. Couple that with some Napa shocks and you are into it for $100.00. It's not that I can't "spring" $300.00 for a set of coilovers...

    Rear suspension travel

Thanks guys. I appreciate it. I should be rolling on this project pretty soon. I will post some pics.Great sight, helpful people, what more could you ask for. Thanks again.

    Rear suspension travel

How much suspension travel ( using common Speedway coilovers and built to Youngster's plans) does a coil over radius rod rear encounter?
